Damn, if any of ya watched the English dubbed version like I did, those Japanese text screens were not translated at all so I definitely missed out on the emotional end point. Ugh, Netflix. Mad

Other than that, I quite enjoyed the movie overall even if it felt like 2 separated episodes combined together. The bittersweet ending for the 2 sisters nearly got me teary eyed and would have been a full-on waterworks if the text were translated.

Definitely a tear-jerker. I was a little surprised the film didn't have a memorial dedication at the beginning or end. Perhaps the Japanese are different about that sort of thing.

The scenes with Prince Violet in the school --- particularly the scene at the ball --- kept making me think of Utena, even if Violet was always in skirts.

Benedict's leavening did keep the second half of the film afloat, along with the running joke about his motorcycle.

While it had its emotional moments, overall I though this movie was dull and for lack of a better word boring.

I expect the director was trying to have the viewer really get invested in the characters so you have a strong emotional payoff. Instead I found myself losing interest just prior to halfway through the movie. When the focus shifted during 2nd half it was already too late, with any emotional attachments lost as well.

I just watched this yesterday and it was quite good. To me there were some problems with the pacing and character interaction but it was easy enough to overlook those. Overall I'd rate it 7 1/2 out of a possible 10 points.
