I hope this is the chance to bring back the legendary Veronica Taylor to voice Ash.

Sorry to burst your bubble (because I know that a lot of people dislike Sarah Natochenny as Ash), but I’m pretty sure I heard Sarah Natochenny in the trailer.

Anyway, I want to keep an open mind about this, but....I don’t know.

Seeing this news, it makes me wonder... could this mean the Pokémon anime could move to Netflix in the near future? I wouldn't be surprised, although it's the highest rated of all the anime airing on Disney XD, the channel isn't really in a lot of homes while Netflix is in many (and even has a button on new TV sets).

Wishful thinking. If you watched the trailer, that pretty much confirms Sarah Natochenny will be voicing Ash in this movie.

What I want to know is that Jay Goede as Mewtwo/Dr. Fuji in the trailer? I'm also wondering if this will actually include the sub that was screened at Anime Expo last year or was that just some Anime Expo exclusive thing?

Mewtwo sounded like Dan Green to me.

Netflix streaming a dub trailer on their YouTube account makes me think the sub version won't be available.

I don't know if this was why I've been seeing Pokémon I Choose You and The Power of Us in Netflix's the recommended section.
I haven't seen a trailer dubbed into neutral spanish yet but if the english version still has the new voices it probably means that Ash's original voice actor won't return here. Which is weird because Netflix has a good record in neutral spanish regarding voices, both the Invader Zim and Rocko's Modern Life movies managed to get almost the original cast, and the same thing happened with the new Saint Seiya show, save for Seiya and Hyoga. Although in the case of Pokémon it's probably due to The Pokémon Company trying to maintain consistency or something in the international dubs.

For anyone who's seen the Japanese version, how do these lines in the trailer compare? Does the dub seem to be aiming for something truer to the original script, or is it closer to the 4Kids edition?

Wow, I really thought this would get a limited theatrical release.

There is zero chance that there will ever be an official subbed Pokémon release.

You'd think they would, considering how popular the original Mewtwo Strikes Back was. Heck, they could have even given out a new Mewtwo/Pikachu/Dragonite/Electabuzz TCG promo card like they did back in the day for the first movie.
But I don't mind it coming out on Netflix instead - I can watch it at my leisure instead of hoping and praying it doesn't get a limited theatrical release in the middle of the week like a lot of anime movies seem to do nowadays.

Yep, it’s Sarah, but something I will say, at least for me, is that Sarah’s voice is maturing in a way resemblant of Veronica (or perhaps TPC is just trying to have Sarah sound like Veronica?). It took me a moment to recognize that it was Sarah and so, unlike most of her past work, I wonder how much of a problem with this I will have.

No offense, but if you're old enough to know who Veronica Taylor is you're old enough to just watch the Japanese version.

Taylor ever coming back is as likely as Funimation bringing back the 4Kids cast of One Piece or Viz getting the old DIC cast of Sailor Moon - zero. Taylor's Satoshi isn't really any better than Natochenny's to begin with, so outside of nostalgia I have no idea why some people are so obsessed with her coming back. The old 4Kids dub wasn't any better than the current one, in fact it was actually worse. I didn't see any American pop songs or fourth wall jokes about Minnesota Vikings in this trailer so that puts it above the original film's dub

Maybe the dub will actually get the point of the movie this time around.
