Wow! The winners are anime that make a ton of sense. I refrained from voting in this because I was convinced that the results would be ridiculous, but I was very wrong.

Not really; Fruits Basket and Demon Slayer are the only winners from 2019.

1. Shonen/Shojo aren't genres.
2. Madoka doesn't belong there since it's an original series.
How hard can you fail at this Funishit?

These polls are never interesting, I'm not saying that a show should not be on the list just because it is popular, but it makes so predictable.

I don't know about Shojo, but there is a pseudo genre called 'Battle Shonen', which includes titles such as; Dragon Ball, One Piece, Bleach, Naruto etc.

It's more about how recent it is. Anything that's currently airing or has aired in the last year has an advantage over things that finished airing at the start of the decade. That's why the Crunchyroll ones are more interesting since they are actually based on viewership (IIRC).

They are western genres. Similar to "hentai." That is also only a western genre. You ask a Japanese person what hentai is, they will literally define the word for you. Only in the west does it refer to "anime porn."
It's the same thing with Shonen and Shojo. From a western perspective, a Shonen anime is something like Bleach or Dragonball.

I fail to see what the problem here is. why is it an issue they included a Shonen and Shoujo voting category?

I guess because the way they're presented it's reinforcing the misconception that shounen and shoujo are genres rather than just age demographics. From the looks of it, 'best shounen' seems to just mean 'best action/adventure show', since there's no actual action show category and everything under it is action/adventure.

Except viewership is determined by total times watched so it includes what has previously been popular. Most of what has taken top spots on these polls are series that are currently ongoing or have aired on the past year. When voting people are less likely to vote for series that came out nearly 10 years ago than one which they watched an episode for the previous day.

*Somewhere in the distance Promare sneezes* Jk I know Promare is only a runner up.
These shows definitely reflect what was popular, but it also shows what shows left the biggest marks and most lasting effect on the anime community as a whole. Of course, personal and critical favorites differ wildly, but these definitely reflect the psyche of a large part of the anime community as a whole.
