This is it, someone tell scientists to remove the human race from the list of intelligent species.

Now I'm only waiting for a meteorite to kill all of us or mother earth to reset the planet.

Congrats to SAO! I'm not the biggest fan of it, but it's definitely been influential.
I'm happy to see Index and Ryuo rank so highly as well, since those are more my jam. Smile

With the what the series has done, where it's gone, the legacy it's had to this point it should come as no surprise. There are other series that this could have gone to, but again, with the the things this series has done like branching out into other media and just having it's name constantly in the general public, it's understandable. cue the plethora of overly repeated negative comments about who this series bad.

That's a lot of votes!!
at least most of the series that were voted are actually pretty good
i didn't expect to see Alderamin on the Sky on here what so ever other than because of its quality. that's really awesome the list is based on series that have overall good story quality i think.

Congrats to Reki Kawahara the novels are actually pretty good. It's a shame that the anime for the series fails to capture most of its good points. Also glad to see Index so high the series is amazing.

I mean, people are complaining, but like, it got heaps of votes and it's also helped bring light novels to the mainstream, along with inspiring a hit anime that then helped pave the way for a bunch of similar shows (for better or worse)

like, regardless of how you personally feel about it, it's a series that HAS had a massive impact and influence on both eastern and western pop culture.

SAO definitely Deserve it, Congratulation to Reki and all it's Fans.

As someone who read Sword Art Online's Light novel since before the anime even came out, I'm following this series for almost the whole decade.

All of the story is very enjoyable and 99% of all the "plotholes" people in the internet attach to SAO is either completely wrong, or only coz of bad anime adaptation.

But What I really like about SAO is how Reki Kawahara improved in his writing over time and how better and better it have become.

Reminder, that SAO was written from 2001 to 2008 ( end of alicization ) and most of the decade Reki was either re-releasing alicization or writing SAO Progressive.

most of those votes are also for SAO Mother's Rosario + Alicization and Progressive Light novel.

Aincrad + ALO + GGO ( volume 1 to 6 ) were all released from 2009 to 2011, while Alicization and Progressive releasing since 2012.

btw, I often say this as a joke, but Reki Kawahara was ahead of his time, for something that he write from 2001 to 2008, he included good black guy and even lesbian girls who fight for her love and remain firm in her belief despite the church's taboo. lol

Anyway, A full list of the Top 50 of the Decade is here if anyone care btw :

Yeah it's pretty impressive SAO was able to get so many points. You'd think the hype would've died down a bit since its early parts weren't a part of the list, same goes for Index. Both Reki and Kamachi have a lot to be proud of.

And thanks for posting the top 50 it's nice seeing more series I like making the list.

Sword Art Online is one of the most entertaining light novel series with action, romance, and an interesting story. The traditional male hero fighting against evil will always be popular type of story and the anime adaptation of the Alicization arc has been fantastic. It is also one of the longest running anime adaptations of a light novel series and when the current arc finishes next spring the Sword Art Online franchise will have 8 cours of anime.

I do enjoy the anime adaptation, but I think calling it fantastic is a bit of a stretch imo. A lot of problems people have with the anime wouldn't exist if it had a better adaptation.

I forgot all about Alderamin. I liked the anime but unfortunately it's never been licensed and no one is fan translating it the last I looked.

It also bears mentioning that both SAO and Index benefited from being active the whole decade, whereas most of the other series came in midway through (or later). I also find the huge gap between #3 and #4 to be rather interesting and am quite surprised (but pleasantly so) that Alderamin on the Sky ranked that high.

That is true, but at the same time they are also at a disadvantage. A lot of series get popular in the beginning and then lose popularity over time. Index for instance was really popular in its first 5 years, but those years aren't a part of this list. As with most series that run for a long time its popularity has declined so its fighting against the other series on this list in a weakened state because a lot of the hype is gone. Meanwhile the series that started this decade are easier to get into because they have less volumes and people wanna check out the new big thing everyone's talking about. So it's hard to say how much they really benefit since by the time this decade started they were kinda old, more so Index than SAO. I mean by the time this decade started Index had around 20 volumes how many people are gonna be willing to jump into that?

Really surprised and impressed Alderamin ranked that high too. I guess this one counts as a sleeper hit. (CMIIW, the LN series just ended recently right?) What's even more amazing is how the author's new work immediately won the top spot for 2020. How amazing is this guy? Shocked

I'm actually more of an Accel World fan, but it's undeniable how influential SAO has been.
Congrats to Kawahara. Congrats to Kamachi. Congrats to everyone else.
