I'm sorry if this is a bit off... but this was really hard to read due to the format. I've been using animenewsnetwork for practically a decade (without commenting much if at all), and love this website. But this 'new' writing format is really jarring and makes it hard to digest the content. I love the images, but the left and right constantly going back and forth between speech bubbles is mentally fatiguing. I couldn't even read half of this piece, and boy do I want to know what went wrong with 7seeds.

If you’re on Safari you can click the little text only icon top left of the address bar, it’ll keep the pictures but take away the formatting and make it easier to follow. Personally I have no issue with this format, but it’s quite useful for other websites as well. |

After binging like, 3 volumes of the manga, I watched about 2 minutes of the anime and just went "oh god" and left and read 2 more volumes. Another major issue, if you've read Basara, it has this same thing as well, is that the manga are extremely dense. Whilst reading the manga, this is a good thing, as her pacing in the manga is very good. But in anime form? Each volume would probably need 3 episodes or so. It's why the Basara anime way back when only adapted a few volumes. It also was never going to be a full adaptation for 12 eps, but at least it bit off a lot less.
I'm still really hoping someone might get the manga and go for omnibus form, but seeing how much of a disaster the anime is, it's even less likely now than ever

This isn't a Netflix show. They just bought the license from a production committee. There's no anime funded by Netflix on their service and the frist one will be out only in 2020 with just 4 episodes.

Given how much I loved the manga, it's really disappointing that this turned out to be such a mess. It sounds like they tried to cram in too much for it to have a chance of turning out even halfway decent.

Agreed, the show was bad.
I was at least half-interested through the first few episodes, although it was very confusing trying to figure out which characters were with which team, etc. Then that "soylent green" episode happened and I pretty much gave up on it. |

It got so depressing that I had to just stop. What a waste of time. And, I had never heard the phrase "misery porn" before. That describes this train wreck perfectly.

It was Netflix-based, what else did people expect? So far, most of their adaptations turned seriously bad or just downright mediocre. Imho, their best was B the Beginning and it was not even that great.

I like it though it helps that I have no interest in touching the original manga, I'm just familiar with ALL the various apocalypse stories this series "borrows" from.
It's the end of the world but you really need three episodes to fully grasp "My God, it's full of bugs"? I'm fine with the way it is. My only complaint is the ridiculous amnesia that affects certain lead characters.... but only where it's convenient for the "mystery". And let's face it, this is an Isekai story where the characters stayed in one spot but the world moved on. |

"It's true that all Netflix anime is crud -- but then, all Netflix *productions* are crud." Knowing this: Expecting this show to be anything *besides* Crud is nothing but the lowest kind of wishful thinking. |

I think the problem here is the lack of accountability thanks to the fact Netflix is not forced to release how many people are watching any of their productions, since, as long you're paying for a subscription, they don't feel the need to improve, compared with, per example, Google Video, when you have to pay for each film you want to watch. Also, there's the elephant in the room regarding anime: It's a well known fact when dealing with Japanese companies and people, you must specify exactly what you do want and what you don't want to see, as Japanese companies are notorious for using double-speak in an attempt to avoid compromising themselves when doing things they don't normally want to do when they deal with foreigners. In other words, many Japanese companies would avoid to deal with foreigners if they could, and most of those productions are either C-list fodder, experimental productions, vanity projects, or stuff that they wouldn't never allowed to be broadcasted in their country under normal conditions, thinking foreign audiences would swallow whatever crap they could spit, without any risk for them or Netflix. |

I was laughing hysterically reading this, but as a fan of Basara I also want to scream! Ahhh! All I want is for Yumi Tamura to become more popular in America so we can get more of her manga released in English. All I want is for more sci fi and fantasy shojo manga to be translated to English, in the vein of Please Save My Earth, Red River, and yes, Basara. A good anime adaptation goes a long way into making that happen; see Yona of the Dawn. Titles that aren’t adapted are less likely to be published and titles that are poorly adapted...I consider the poor adaptation itself a tragedy, first of all, because Tamura is a great writer and her work shouldn’t be butchered this way. I was hoping for a well made slightly updated version of a completely told story like Parasyte, but it seems they only made an unintentionally funny mess ☹️

Its such a damn shame. Tamura's masterful works are just too epic to be adapted into anime, I guess that's the conclusion. Basara and Tomoe ga Yuku fell victim to this as well.
Just read the wonderful, beautiful manga, please. Dammit Gonzo. At least there are a lot of good seiyuu... |
