Good question. I don't think I saw anything officially ending that portion, but considering that the revamped version of Shelf Life doesn't include the email address for pics, I have to think it is.

With a new release I wonder if anyone at ANN is willing to jump into the hornets nest that would be a review of Kanamemo.

...That character... and a couple other lesser problematic ones. I mostly think the show was mildly funny and kinda sweet... you just have to roll with the story and accept the troublesome characters and situations as humorous exaggeration.

That publisher's description of Overlord III certainly oversells the danger to Ains and the gang:
Quote:
While Ains Ooal Gown's conquest over Yggdrasil is bearing fruit, a deadly power struggle between empires could lead to Ains' downfall. But that's the least of his worries. Despite praise from his subjects, Momonga is finding it harder and harder to keep up the act as the terrifying Ains. On top of it all, Nazarick is being invaded. Can the mighty Overlord maintain his reign, or will this be his final stand?

Anyone that saw the previous two seasons would know neither of those were anything for Anis to worry about. Most people watching the previous 2 seasons wouldn't be wondering, "Will Ains and crew finally have a challenge this time?", but rather "How hard are these people going to get stomped?".

Yeah, and that's what I come usually for, but now Shelf Life is just a glorified "This Weeks New Releases" with pictures of the covers and description of the products. I'm not saying this in a bad way. But I really liked seeing other peoples shelves. Too bad that seems to be cancelled unless they bring it back, unless doubting otherwise.

I miss the longer reviews more than shelf obsessed. I know they were a lot of work to maintain but I loved reading the retrospectives on older series. Sometimes the sold me on a series I'd skipped long ago.

Agreed. Even if the longer review is too time-consuming to continue, it would be nice to get at least SOMETHING...for example, even something as small as just labeling the releases as Shelf Worthy, Rental, or Perishable (though it would be nice to have a few lines explaining why). Like NeoStrayCat said, this current version of Shelf Life is just a glorified This Week's New Releases. Which would be fine if this was the new version of This Week's New Releases! With Shelf Life, though, I'm looking for at least a hint of an opinion.

It's not like there's no more review on the website, let say they make a review of megalobox, but just post it aside from the column, it'll come back to the same.

The Reviews section tends to focus on newer content releases – which is great – but what I loved about Shelf Life reviews is Paul often picked out some older content re-release for the week. It was like Pile of Shame but without the disappointment of realizing something's out of print just as I learn about it (although I miss that column too!)

Maybe I'll miss it less if ANN covers more rereleases as regular Reviews (yes, I saw the G Gundam review – that's the sorta thing) but there's so much new content that it's harder to justify in that context. It'd be odd to see reviews of something like Angel Cop and Area 88 being posted while releases of airing shows are skipped.

I guess what I should be saying, and what I should have said long ago, is that I'm grateful to have had Shelf Life reviews over the years. Sad they're not here, hope they return, but I also understand that they're a lot of work for a niche audience within a niche audience.

Hell yes, finally almost time for Cyborg 009! Can't wait for my set to get here and rewatch!

Yeah, the shelf images were cool and especially miss the extra review and shelf rating.
