I really wish StudioCanal(the company that dubbed Arrietty ) would dub Emma: A Victorian Romance.

Sure I have been consuming maid stories lately so why not. It's bee a long time since I have heard of Emma: A Victorian Romance, and it looks to be regarded as an excellent series all around.
Is Studio Canal really good at dubbing anime or you think they would do a better job capturing the atmosphere of Emma? |

Without trying to tempt fate or anything, I suspect it's quite likely something similar will happen in the near future. Rightstuf CEO Shawne Kleckner recently tweeted a cryptic post that hinted at such a possibility https://twitter.com/shawnekleckner/status/1037505885449478144 This, coupled with Emma's sudden appearance on Crunchyroll, which seems reminiscent of the first season of Aria being put up on the platform to drum up interest in its kickstarter, makes me wonder if this is just part of the build-up to a new project. However, considering the UK dubbing sector is subject to stricter rules than the US (I don't believe they're unionised, & charge on a daily rate, etc.), if Rightstuf/Nozomi do go down this route I suspect the cost will be higher in terms of per episode content than Aria was. Still, it would be worth it as far as I'm concerned. Emma lives by its sense of accuracy to the time period, and I just can't see faux-English accents not undermining that. |

Well, supposing a dub were to be made, there would doubtfully be a need to rely on anyone other than the usual companies to produce it... |

"Emma" was given an Animax dub, so a Kickstarter for a more "proper" dub with real British accents would be very costly.

Thought so as much. It's been a long time since I have seen the movie but I do remember that The Secret World of Arrietty had a good English dub.
So Emma - A Victorian Romance does not have an English dub. When I think about it I do recall that the anime never never dubbed. It's such a shame given the setting. While I can understand there is no way anyone is going to try to replicate how English was spoken during the Victorian Era it would be nice to see an English dub as it would make the experience watching the anime more authentic then watching the Japanese dub (which I trust is of good quality). Preferably it the dubbing cast were voice actors from England, but as Kadmos points out that would be expensive. However it would be ambitious if something like that did happen. |

An authentic British English dub would definitely sell the setting better. Not trying to be the jerk here or anything, but everyone speaking Japanese in the Victorian era is just weird and out of place. It just doesn't do it for me. That's exactly why Ancient Magus' Bride doesn't work for me in Japanese either; it's also the reason I'm eagerly awaiting a home release of its English dub. |

^ I understand, belvadeer! I feel a similar way as well; though I can handle watching a Japanese dub of a anime that takes place in a English speaking setting fine.

And it's fine if you do. However, to make a bit of an era-appropriate joke here, it just isn't my cup of tea. Darjeeling, of course. Ohohoho. XD Though I find it very odd in cases like Detective Conan where they have Japanese VAs doing the voices for foreign characters. Their English isn't very good to say the least, and it would benefit them more to get actual native English speakers to do lines like those, such as in Episode 907. |

That would be nice, and I recall one such anime that appear to have done just that. However I can't remember the title of it right now. |

ya think?? and considering that some of the hellsing ultimate ova dub cast members were british, right stuff could have used that same cast for a dub version of emma. unfortunately considering that they licensed the series during when the bubble that was holding the industry completely blew up, i cant blame them for not dubbing the series without them ending up becoming like bandai and geneon ent! though the real head scratcher is why did they gave up the rights to aria the origination and handed them over to crunchyroll??? i thought right stuff exceeded the kickstarter project goals to dub the entire franchise and that includes all the OVAs and origination!!! i know they did that for emma, BUT did they let their license for the series expire too??? |
