By anime I can't tell if they mean a series or movie but I hope it ends up being a movie. When it comes to pacing, an anime would be okay if was only like 10 episodes long but a movie would be much better at 90-120 minutes long. Either way, the amount of ingenuity required to pull this off will make the director stand out quite a lot. Especially since the art style is so unpopular currently, I mean just look at how the designs for the Boogeypop remake are shaping out to be. That is to say, quite badly.

Race against time. Maruyama ain't getting any younger & I don't think there's anyone else in the industry who has his ability to magic up money & cares as much about Satoshi Kon's legacy.

The further confirmation of the killing of The Dreaming Machine is the part of the article that really makes me mad. A significant portion of the movie was completed AND they promised him on his deathbed that it would be finished. It continues to feel like such a betrayal.

Seriously, this just pissed me off. So he's claiming that he can't find anyone competent enough to put together the framework Kon already created and direct the remaining scenes? Or at the very, very least make what's completed available in some form? Guess those deathbed promises were just words.

If they did finish it & it was shit, I expect people would be a lot more angry. Indeed, the cynic in me wonders if Maryuama keeps these things going not because he actually expects them to be made; but because he doesn't want the rights to fall into the hands of someone looking to crap out something using an IP they think has existing appeal.

Both guesses are good ones, but the truth is one of the greatest industry secrets I would die to know. Mr. Kon was a Master of his craft and we lost him too early. Sad
