The first episode is a case of adapting too much of the novels(and the 2nd drama CD to boot),but what recap?
Have to say this if you're not familiar with the 4th volume, well, the majority of ep1 is straight out of,well volume 4.
So there is an overabundance of exposition, backstory, setup and foreshadowing of story lines that will be adapted and those far beyond what this season will adapt.
Again though really no recap.
Zesshi Zetsumei (bi-color girl) & Captain of the Black Scripture(that is his only name currently lol) show just to drop (hit you over the head) the hint about other players.
That is all we'll see of them...same goes for the Platinum Dragon Lord & Rigrit Bers Caurau, though they provide a little backstory for a upcoming character.
The opening pretty much shows all the major players of season 2.

I'm pretty sure the only reason they included that Slane Theocracy scene was because it reminded us that the first arc happened. It really was a pointless 1:50 that just rushes the pacing for everything else.
So we went from the middle of arc 4 in episode 13 to jumping all over the place in episode 14, only to end at the beginning of arc 4. I feel bad for anyone binging.
Pretty bad start overall but hopefully it'll get better.

The episode, for me,tried too hard adding setups of upcoming and future story lines.Structurally the first episode makes sense,if you're very familiar with the various source materials adapted.
The episode has basically adapted the non-Lizardmen point of view portions of the 4th volume,am guessing the second episode will be adapting those.
Frankly hoping we'll not be subjected to the redundancy of volume 5 the near endless exposition of Climb's training-shudder

Perhaps instead of "recap" I should have said "references to things which happened in season 1" or something like that. The first episode is littered with those.

I finished watching season 1 yesterday, and the first episode of season 2 picks up where season 1 left. There is no recap. I might have seen a couple of references to season 1, but the rest of the episode is new anime content. Did you watch the first episode of season 2 on Crunchyroll? Because Rebecca Silverman is also saying in the preview guide that the episode is a recap. Did the both of you watch a different episode?

I'll apologize first off if I'am coming off as a nut or too belligerent.
But what references?..The majority of the episode is expositional dialogue/setup for future plot lines. From Shalltear's drinking to Aniz pointing out various map locations and so on.
Personally feel the episode caters too much to those who know the franchise, and paid too little attention to those only familiar with season one.

And I'am even more confused by Rebecca's and Theron's comments.
Of course the episode refers back to the first season, there are a few over-arcing/ongoing plot lines and running gags.

I watched what debuted on CR on Tuesday 1/9. I would think that all the other details I wrote in the review would make that clear. (And besides, remember that we only use official sources for episode reviews and previews.)
I've already clarified that I chose my words poorly and should have not used the word "recap," so I'm not going to keep repeating myself. Really don't know what you're expecting me to say here.

There were several references to Shalltear being mind-controlled and the world item that must have been behind it. There were references to the guy talking to Rubik Cube Girl having encountered a vampire (Shalltear) and the losses taken in that fight. The king's comments about wanting to thank Ains personally were in reference to Ains saving Gazef at Carne Village. Ains also referred to that attack in the map scene. Pretty sure there were others, too, but these are the ones I remember off the top of my head.

For those that have not read the books, this episode contains a number of "extra" chapters from the novels that were not part of the official chapters, just little side snippets included with each volume. The dragon talking with the blue rose founder, the slain theocracy were not part of the main story, I agree it's a bit odd to slide them in but they do provide a better look at the other parties involved in the world.
I really hope this season covers 3 volumes like the first season did, I REALLY want to see Entoma in action. It should be possible if they do roughly 4 eps per volume.

Do not go into this series without watching the first season.... there is no recap viewers are expected to be upto speed.
Having finally gotten a chance to sit down and watch this episode, I must say that I like where it's going. Interesting that they decided to show the dragon so early on... will like to see where this goes next.

Ep 2,
YEAAAAAA!, Just saw the series OP and this season will indeed be covering 3 volumes, Entoma fight confirmed!
Anyway, Rororo is a hell of a lot bigger than I thought he would be, I thought he was roughly the size of a horse or maybe Hamsuke, but he's quite a bit bigger than that. That and I like how expressive the lizardmen are with their tails. That said, the first half of the lizardman arc is probably the slowest portion of this series, I don't expect much exciting stuff to happen until episode 4, then we get plenty of back to back cool scenes.

It's definitely presented as if Nazarick and the lizard are about to go to war, but I doubt they'd spend so much time making the lizard sympathetic just to have them be roflstomped.
At most there might some sort of "we only did it so they would form alliance" moment, which could work but would need to be very well though out.

Adorable Albino Lizardgal has captured my heart. I easily understand why that Traveler dude temporarily forgot his mission to effect a Lizardperson alliance to stave off annihilation in favour of issuing a marriage proposal.

Quick nitpick, his name is "Zaryusu."
I thought the impromptu "do you remember that war? you do? ok, imma explain it anyway" was pretty sloppy as far as writing goes. They could at least have had a narrator voice it, or do the "token young person needs an explanation" setting.
Also annoyed that they pulled the ventriloquism act for Entoma. She clearly has a mouth - if you can animate lizards and penguins talking with their nonbasic mouths, you can animate a standard humanoid talking.
Friendly reminder to everyone that YP has only released 5 books so far, so it would be generally appreciated if you kept spoilers involving the 6th book and beyond to a minimum :v
