Oh, Funimation. What a sick joke you've become. You could've brought back Charles Campbell to direct the dub like he did with the last series. He could've brought back some of the principle voice talent involved in the last dub of the first anime. I mean, he does work for Funimation and has directed for your company in the past. But no, because you're both incompetent and full of nepotism, you cast Josh Grelle once again for the main lead and Charles Campbell does get brought back but as a voice talent only.
I'm glad I pirate your stuff now. I'd be a complete fool to give you any of my money especially since some of your script writers can't even handle criticism very well and are rude about it.

The Japanese voice cast didn't reprise their roles either.
It'd be one thing if the Japanese cast intentionally reunited the classic cast, but since they didn't, FUNimation had no obligation to either.
I mean sure, they probably could've if they really wanted to, but having their regular local actors take on these roles is easier for a simuldub schedule. (And that's on top of FUNimation just doing the same thing done in Japan in regards to casting.)

I expect Japan to do that more often, but I feel dubs are different, it's more obvious in the English language when voices change. If anything, your argument is a straw man argument.

I think I might start this series once the "Ancient Magus Bride" and current "Garo" simuldubs finish streaming. I am just watching too many series now.

Maybe they could’ve brought back Charles Campbell, but when have you heard of ANY of the actors from the original dub being in a recent dub? Not to mention they would have to outsource to Houston. Just listen to the damn thing and then see - you may feel that the new dub is better. Also, WTF with the pirating?

It's a bit hypocritical to hold dubs to some standard like that, but not the Japanese seiyuu...

Not really...

I don't think so.
I've seen cases where a dub's had to recast an actor for a role, just because the Japanese seiyuu for that character was replaced.
You can't say that decisions made in Japan don't impact choices made for dubs.
So like I said, since the Japanese chose not to reuse the actors from the 90s series, FUNimation felt no obligation to do so either. And whether by choice, convenience, or request from the Japanese, that's a fair decision in this case, since the result is the same as what was done on the Japanese side.

I'm pretty sure Charles kept in touch with at least some of the voice talent involved with the original dub.
Also on the subject of piracy, People like me pirate because the industry is dysfunctional and doesn't deserve support. The only company I would support because they do such a great job with the work and their releases is Discotek. They care about their work so much that they reunited the original dub cast for the new Lupin series.
Everyone else is hopeless and doesn't deserve the money. Not even AnimeNewsNetwork really deserves respect.

I was looking forward to this series but frankly it's one of the worst adaptations I've ever
seen .

It doesn’t matter whether he’s in contact with them or not. If they’re retired, they’re retired.
And congratulations, Discotek makes one dub (literally) that you like and the rest of the industry should be ashamed of themselves for it.

I guess it tells my age when I can't recognize most of the new voice actors' names in the Japanese version except for Takahiro Sakurai and Daisuke Namikawa. Though I do also recognize the guy who voiced Orga from Gundam: IBO's name and the guy who voiced Iok(shudder) . Compare that to the original which had Akira Ishida, Megumi Ogata, Daisuke Sakaguichi, Rica Matsumoto, Takehito Koyasu, Takeshi Kusao, Ryotaro Okaiyu all in it.
It's kind of similar to the D.Gray-Man Hollow series in disconnect.

I could think of numerous other titles that Discotek did great work for besides Lupin.
The industry shouldn't be ashamed of themselves because of one dub. They should be ashamed because instead of working hard to make better products, they basically try and guilt you into buying their stuff because if you don't you're a bad person if you don't.
The cold reality is that much of the North American anime industry is built on moralizing their products, you have to buy it or else.

I miss the days where if you didn't like a casting decision in an anime dub that it was just a personal disagreement and you moved on. Now apparently everything a company does that you don't like has to be a moral outrage or part of some Illuminati shadowy conspiracy or something.

That's what I don't understand about anime fans today. I don't even remember the VA's from Soul Hunter and if I did, I wouldn't care if they came back or not.
@StrangeIslands, why does this bother you so much?

Can someone call the mods on StrangeIslands? I might sound like a snitch, but I'd rather be a snitch than be a crybaby about dubs.
Now he's trying to slander one the writers, go back to MAL basement you came from StrangeIslands.

Slander? It's just the truth. Don't shoot me, I'm only the messenger.
