That's an ... interesting choice. I've read Unbeaten Tracks in Japan, and Isabella Bird is very ... blunt ... with her observations and opinions. Though, not racist as such -- she treats Colorado pretty much the same way in A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains. But she certainly does not go out of her way to paint a flattering picture of the places she visits. I'd be interested to see what the publisher makes of it.
