Some important omissions I noticed: Captain Tsubasa, Hokuto No Ken, Evangelion, Rurouni Kenshin, Hunter x Hunter any of Rumiko's works, CLAMP (Sakura perhaps) and, as mentioned Ghibli.

No Doraemon or Sazae san either and those are huge. Probably just licensing issues like the article said though.

A bit surprised Attack on Titan and Death Note didn't make it.

I saw the new Mr. Osomatsu near the end; too bad they didn't slip in part of the first episode ( the one that is 'on the outs' with the rest of the business ).
And maybe I missed it, but Ghost in the Shell seems to not have been included. No biggie, just a personal fave. Correct me if I'm wrong, but were there any 3D CGI things? I didn't see anything like Appleseed Alpha. *ahem* Maybe a show has to be 'good' first. |

That was really nice, I understand they can't please everybody, and the lack of some titles are confusing. I was surprised to see Cowboy Bebop. And it was odd that they showed newer versions of Osomatsu and Lupin, instead of the first instalments.

In Osomatsu's case, that's probably also licensing, and I'm willing to bet Lupin was as well. It was interesting to see the "Proto-anime" stop-motion of the 40's, but it didn't seem to be artistically arranged in any memorable way, just going through a historical list. Of course, call me Old-Skool, but there never was a better "History/Great Moments of Anime" short than that great classic fan-made opening film to AnimeCon '91, back in the underground club days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXzNRgnfNRs (I'd been looking for that for twenty-five years since the campus days...Still brings tears to the eyes.) |

As far as the GONZO inclusions are concerned, Samurai 7 and Gankutsuou were welcome surprises. Aokana, on the other hand, has me baffled.

Captain Tsubasa
Doraemon Death Note Rurouni Kenshin Urusei Yatsura InuYasha Evangelion Trigun Fist of the North Star Dirty Pair Kimagure Orange Road Bubblegum Crisis These titles among many others are influential. Makes no sense leaving them out. EDIT: Ya know what!? I'm gonna take the video and add all the other shows that should be in there. It jumps from Namakura Gatana(1917) to Ochou Fujin no Gensou(1940). It only has 5 anime before Hakujaden(1958). Nothing from Noburo Ofuji, Yasuji Murata, Mitsuyo Seo, Kenzo Masaoka and many other great early animators.

Don't see any Gainax works either. Gotta be licensing. |

Now there's the 'make-do-and-mend' spirit! When a compilation is notable in its omissions, this is the most fitting response. |

Most of the titles here are distributed by Bandai Visual and Aniplex in Japan. Most of the omissions are from other publishers like King Records (Eva, Utena), Pony Canyon, and Kadokawa.
What’s weird is that Bandai Visual owns Ghost in the Shell and Macross, and Aniplex has Rurouni Kenshin (along with Bleach- thus showing their stuff was in the video), so their exclusions were baffling.Toei owns Hokuto no Ken, but they showed Dragon Ball, so that’s odd as well. So yeah- licensing sucks for these compilation videos, and some of the choices were very questionable. |
