"What the hell happened?" in the most positive way possible is the best "What the hell happened?"
Outside of NOPE NOPER AND NOPEST with associated screencaps, of course.

I feel like that this site and a little portion of 4chan's /a/ board are the only places in this planet that watched this show. No offense.

Yup, Anime-Gataris does discuss about anime indeed.
And then, going meta was like the cherry on top.

I agree. But that phrasing makes it sound as if something bad happened with Anime-Gataris. I admit that the meta anime apocalypse was kind of messy, but it was adequate for an anime about anime. The show is a love letter to anime fandom.

Animegataris was more fun than it had any right to be, and I am very glad I took the time to watch it.

Anime-Gataris certainly went meta with the last episode which I thought was an original way to end it. I think that Gamers did slightly better at being a show about gaming but Anime-Gataris was a very good show about anime. Also the student made anime was hilarious.

I was afraid this would be negative instead of how awesome it was. Perhaps the weird thing is that complaints you might have, the story itself was kind of criticising, characters said they were jumping the shark too much, that the setting shift was unsettling, and that it was even cheap to have a build up to a villain and to handle it so quickly. You might even call it cheap, but it did give the sense that a it was all done on purpose.

Oh god, now you've made me want to watch it again. And look for all the stuff I missed.
I did like it the first time, it just seemed very uneven. Some of it got into the nitty gritty of making anime to the point it felt like self-advertising for the industry. Not a bad thing, but it seemed overbearing and wrong, sometimes.
Compliments on a good article, it made me smile quite a bit.

Letterboxing is black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. You know, like a letterbox. Pillarboxing is where they're on the sides.
Anyway, good anime. Great reference humour (the Oarai trip in the "anime pilgrimage" episode in particular was lovely and relateable), fun special interest-based school club material with characters who do a great job of representing anime fan archetypes while also being enjoyable in their own right, and an insane final arc that flawlessly worked the out-there elements into what we the accept as the "reality" of the show, like the conversation in the principal's office where it was raining inside, which develops so naturally that you almost don't register it.

I'm now interested in this anime!
Though... i don't like that guys in discussion crearly hate 90's anime style... especially when 90's anime style if the most nostalgic anime style to me, and it's like the real and true anime style to me.
