Never read this, but based on the review and NisiOsin, the girl's gotta be a 100+ year old loli vampire, right? Razz (Not asking for spoilers, just posting my guess before the next two volumes come out!)

The expression on that girl's face isn't one I expect to see from a ten year old...

and she shows a degree of independence that does not jive at all with her being a 4th grader

should be a caveat there, "with her being a normal 4th grader".

Circumstances can age children, so that they can and will act older than there actual physical age. Children who have been abused or have had to live with violence as a part of life, can seem quite strange to people who have lived normal lives.

Poverty, hunger, sickness, and malnutrition can also etch and warp the personalities of children.

Theron spent entire review bashing the story and characters, said the volume didn't make him want to read the next one, yet he still gave the volume a passing grade of C.

Come on mate, you are allowed to give out failing grades, you know. Please stop with the A to C scale, it isn't helpful and looks ridiculous.

Just because it doesn't get me to read any more doesn't mean that it's an F. And while this isn't good, it's not that bad, either.

If you want to see a current example of something I'd give a D to, look no further than King's Game. (Although Dies irae may get there, too, if it continues with its current nonsense.)

I would argue that an opening volume's job is to get you to read the next. If it was so poorly written that you didn't care to continue then by that metric it clearly did fail.

You don't have to give it an F, a D or D+ are also options. In fact, when I was reading the review, a D+ was the sort of grade I envisioned given the points you raised against this manga.

Also, you would only give King's Game a D? This proves my point. Besides Mamoru Miyano hamming it up there's literally nothing good about that show - it's so staggeringly stupid it barely even counts as so-bad-its-good - so why would you not bust out the F?

Most likely because there's worse. This is reminding me of how people don't use the 1-10 rating correctly and most of the time think a 5/10 is a piss poor grade when all it means is that it's average.

No, it doesn't prove your point just because you think it deserves an F. As bad as King's Game is, I've seen worse. KG has at least a minor amount of entertainment value for me, and I reserve an F rating for those who have absolutely none.

My problem with this story is that it is not at all believable. The characters' behavior makes no sense and nothing in the plot is credible. It is not laughable because the manga takes this so seriously. The premise appears to be a psychological story where a disturbed elementary school girl takes a college student hostage and maintains a dominant position. This is the least credible version I have encountered of a younger girl in a dominant relationship with an older guy, and that includes hentai. This girl is nearly half his height and is able to "kidnap" him using a knife so small that when she stabbed him with it he got a paper cut. She forces him while pressing a small knife in his back to walk from his home through many crowded public areas to her house. It looks ridiculous in still pictures and the story tries to address that somewhat but if you think about their size difference and thus the difference in gait it becomes preposterously silly. Her plans are so poorly thought out it is surprising they didn't fail on their own.

The girl has no reason to pursue him since he had no idea who she was and he had no reason to go along with her behavior. This is a situation a below average middle school student could have gotten out of with little effort.

It makes me feel bad to know that I could think of a few improbable but far more credible ways to make this scenario happen and I have no writing skills.
