Little Sister anime are disgusting and Monster Girls anime can only be done right if the main focus isn't breasts. Confused

I'll take little sister shows over isekai shows at this point. At least I can understand that it's a fetish for some people and it sells. There's no way audiences aren't feeling deja vu with all this isekai stuff.

"I'm a loser who got transported to another world and it's a video game!" "I'm a loser who got transported to another world and I have a harem!" "I'm a loser who got transported to another world except I was picking my nose in the process and my finger is permanently stuck there!"

...

You know what, I'd watch the last one.

Quote:
Post-Apocalyptic: ...The currently airing (but not yet streaming in English) Children of the Whales sees a small village of people traversing a planet that's become little more than a wasteland of sand..

By the second episode spoiler[that went really dark real fast...]

Quote:
Isekai: ...Sword Art Online is still the genre's juggernaut, and we've got much more of that coming out next year too

I wouldn't say SAO is isekai. It belongs in the same category as the .hack franchise and I haven't heard anyone calling that isekai...

I think this list is missing a trend that's been proven very important in this last year, and this trend would be the early start of romantic relationships in anime, for example Tsuki ga Kirei, Gamers!, Tsuredure Children, Scum's Wish, SukaSuka, Welcome to the Ballroom, My First Girlfriend is a GAL and The Ancient Magus' Bride. You can also throw in Netsuzou Trap, Koi to Uso, Renai Boukun, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, and you can also throw in Kobayashi's Dragon Maid if you can interpret Kobayashi's and Tohru's relationship romantically (I do at least).

I think this trend began primarily with Bakemonogatari in 2009 and made even more popular in 2012 with the advent of Sword Art Online. At any rate, any anime fan will know that romance in anime has never been explored so many times with so much depth in the same year, so I definitely believe this is a trend and that it will continue swiftly.

I would add that original romances, and romances in general, has become more of a thing after what seems like quite a drought.

Inspired by the success in character study that was 'Tamako Market' a few years ago, new original romance anime such as 'Tsuki ga Kirei' and this season's 'Just Because!' has also made an appearance, and has so far proven their worth, despite production difficulties.

The Noitamina anime block already has two consecutive romances (although adaptions) lined up for 2018: 'Koi Wa Ameagari No You Ni' (Winter) and 'Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii' (Spring), which shows that an interest for it has sprung up again. Shout out to the next instillation of 'Kokuhaku Jikkō Iinkai ~Ren'ai Series~' series by HoneyWorks, 'Itsudatte Bokura no Koi wa 10 cm Datta'!

Romance comedies such as Tsuredure Children and Gamers from last season and this season's MMO Junkie has also made their addictive marks. The first movie installation of 'Hikaru-san ga touru' also shows like it will be good romantic fun.

Gamers and MMO junkie in fact shows the beginning of a focus shifting from - instead of characters trapped in a game - to characters simply playing a game. Which I think has a great appeal, judging by the general praise for Gamers! and the love MMO Junkie is rapidly garnering this season.

Reverse harem anime adaptions is also a thing. They have sort of always been in the background, but this season we have two: of the otome game Sengoku Night Blood and visual novel Code: Realize. For Winter 2018, 'Nil Admirari no Tenbin: Teito Genwaku Kitan' has also been confirmed, with 'Library Cross' probably following not long after.

P.S for Lynzee: Idolmaster: Side-M - the installation of the successful franchise Idolmaster focusing on male idols - is also a male idol anime that I feel is definitely worth (if not more) mentioning among titles like Dynamic Chord and Tsukipro.

Western superheroes in anime style is the best thing that could ever combo.

Also surprised Hitorijime my hero actually cracked the top 20 for most enjoyed summer. Pretty happy since even if I voted for it I was pretty sure it wouldn't rank lol.

I'm rooting for "old man protagonist" to become a trend. Between Rakugo, Alice & Zoroku, and Inuyashiki, it's certainly off to an ambitious start.

I feel like post-apocalypse (as a trend) is waning, but has seen a general uptick since, I don't know, ~2000? It's not an acute trend, but something a bit more enduring, kinda like giant robot anime have never really faded away completely even though their heyday is decidedly past.

Male idols are on the rise (as are female-oriented shows in general).

I think we're about at peak isekai now, maybe a little past it. We had the shows that established the genre and expanded it, and now we're seeing the twists and meta-isekai shows being the warmer properties (I'm A Spider/Vending Machine, Re:Creators, etc.) . A "standard" vanilla isekai show that hits all the usual beats might do all right if done well, but those beats are expected now; I fully expect Death March...Rhapsody to be DOA. As the instigator of the modern isekai trend, Sword Art Online double shows next spring, one of which is the lengthy Alicization arc, seems like a crossroads or bellwether for the isekai trend.

"Nostalgia" will likely continue. Milking old franchises is something Hollywood's been doing for ~15 years now and only now are people really getting sick of it, so anime's still probably got at least another five years, and even then it'll never completely fade away now that anime is old enough to have a sizable historical catalog of shows to work with (unlike in the '90s for example).

Monster Girls is a great trend, lots of opportunity for interesting characters + character designs, especially compared "little sisters". It does seem like something of a fad though, alas, so unless we get a real powerhouse of a title to revitalize things, it'll slowly fade over the next two years.

Western-style Superheroes: Small but relatively "green" trend. I think it'll continue to grow for awhile as the wave of American superhero movies percolates through the minds of Japanese creatives.

Little sisters: Definitely on the decline compared to several years ago, Eromanga's popularity is partly due to the fact that it's the sequel series by the Oreimo author, who greatly popularized the formerly-obscure fetish. Again, compared to monster girls, little sisters just isn't as interesting. Whatever trend comes after monster girls (christmas cakes? oneesans?) will relegate imoutos to the same bin as maids, mikos, and catgirls.

I'm sure it won't be long before "I Can't Believe My Little Sister is a Harpy From Another World" gets greenlit.

In 10 years this will be cited as the beginning of the "Harpy Imouto Isekai" or HII trend that dominates Anime in the late 2020's. Rolling Eyes

Halfway there. Synopsis 12 Beast (manga, published in English by Seven Seas);
Quote:
Touga Eita is a highschool student and video-game otaku. He is the heir to the Touga style Ninjitsu, and he has never kissed a girl. All this changes when a voluptuous girl with wings and taloned feet named Aero appears and calls on Eita to help save her people-the harpies of Re-Verse-from the merciless onslaught of giant robot monsters known as Gigas. Aero revels that she was sent to find him, by his missing brother. Eita will follow his newfound harpy friend into a whole new world, filled with monster girls and fantastical creatures beyond his wildest dreams.

SAO still isn't isekai no matter how many times you put it in an article. Isekai and trapped in a video game are two completely different genres.

Also Kakegurui is #7 on most enjoyed show this seasons? You dirty rotten pirates!(it was me Embarassed )

An isekai monster girl show? Damn it, why did I never consider it before?! It's so obvious in retrospect!

LOL to all of this. Laughing For me, this is part of why I like anime so much. The weird premises that can become common in the medium and create humorous responses like these bring warm feelings to my heart. Whereas in any other media, it may be seen as even alien-like for these these things to be conceived in the first place and thus don’t nearly happen as much as in anime.

As for the old poll, I feel good seeing Made in Abyss as the most enjoyed anime of the Sunmer season. It was quite an experience to watch and I hope that another season can be made for it in the future.

At least the trend of Oda Nobunaga being a teenage girl has stopped. Could never figure out why that one was so popular.
