Adult Source Media did quietly release the lolicon title Harumi's Bad Play without referring to the girl's age at all. Wonder if that one's allowed in Canada...

Canadian law specifies that merely appearing to be underage is enough to get you in trouble. So even if it says they're 19 that won't work if they look like a 12 year old.

I fail to see what is the problem!!!
We are talking about drawings so they have no age.
If the artist said they have 18 years, then they really have 18.
If the artist said they have 180 years, then they really have 180.
If the artist said they have 1800 years, then they really have 1800.
If the artist said they have 1800000000 years, then they really have 1800000000.
Comparing drawings age with real people age is plain idiotic.
Laws that do that are stupid and should be revoked.

It's easy to tell a 12 year old from a 18 year old but not so much a 17 year old from a 18 year old.

To be fair, she was an android.

Is that the one where the girl's head pops off at the end, because she was actually a sensor-loaded robot for alien anthropologists? And then those aliens *ahem* came down to further their human sexuality research and recover their perverse weather balloon?
I don't know about Canada, but in the US at least the full context of her being a robot is likely what makes it legal.

They could just say that the character in the high school uniform was just role playing for their partner who is a uniform...enthusiast. That sort of thing is common enough and ultimately it's porn. They wouldn't need to shy away from such an innocuous fetish.

To some extent I don't fuss too much about the apparent age of characters, but I think there is a line where the apparent age becomes...concerning, even for fictional characters. I don't know exactly where I would put that line but there definitely is one.

How does that work even? I've seen girls in college that could fit in with junior high girls. Yeah, usually you can immediately tell, but there are some cases where you really can't (I knew one girl that even got clothes at gap kids that lived in the dorms).
That also just sounds incredibly regressive since you're essentially saying any flat, not tall 18+ girls can't possibly be found attractive by normal people because they look like they are 12. I would expect something like that from conservative areas in the US, but I thought Canada and other more liberal places would be past shaming women for their body type.
The entire point is to protect underage individuals. You are either underage or you aren't. They don't refuse to sell you alcohol because you look underage. They just check your id to see that you aren't underage then sell it to you; the age you look like you are is irrelevant. Or on the reverse side, a girl looking like she is 18+ isn't going to help you if it turns out she was actually underage.

your post remind me of a certain artist who answered to a fan . "yes, she is 18, let me draw you her id".
for me it's better to ginore age in fictional characters, like a character can be in a 14 years old body but be mentally in her late 20s like homura, orthe counteless of 18+ year old anime girls that behave like little girls (hello dead or alive), and then we have loli mercury that is 960 years old, looks 14 but unlike most anime lolis beehaves more like an adult than the 30+ yo adults.

This is the first time I recall Comic Sans being deployed in an ANN article! This could take some getting used to, I fear...

What if she looks 12 EXCEPT for her triple-D size knockers?

To think Hoshizora No Memoria(currently active) kickstarter has 65 backers from Canada. And 39 from Australia to boot. My hats off to you brave ones...

Maybe they're backing the all-ages Steam version.
