I assume that the prosecutors found little probability of the threatener actually committing the murder.

Sorry, but I read that as Prostitution hauled instead of Persecution halted. That would have been a weird article.

Press the charges. Send this scumbag to prison.
PS: I'm expecting the treacherous Yamakan to stick his nose in this case.

They really need to start punishing these degenerates at every turn. These women already have a hard enough time as it is...

Is harassment and threats against celebrities a bigger problem in Japan than in the west?

Death threats are death threats. That guy deserves a punishment, even if it's just money.

Most cases of death threats online are impossible to prove legitimacy for and not worth law enforcement's time since they're always just trolls who don't actually mean it.

Well, 99% of the time are trolls. 1% are legit and very dangerous. But it's nigh impossible to tell the difference, really.

Perhaps the prosecution felt that the charge just wasn't worth the time to act on...Disheartening, but I see their point.

I hope they didn't let him go. Don't need to see the next Nana article saying she died by the same guy.

It's good to enjoy every artist with the view of being thankful for all they provide, but not demanding anything more from them. If Nana Mizuki wanted to quit being a singer and voice actress, that's up to her and even as a member of her fan club I wouldn't be demanding anything more from her.
I'd never expect the right to meet Nana Mizuki in person unless I'd won a ticket draw for such at a fan event.
The person who posted the threats needs to return to acceptable behaviour and realistic expectations. I wonder if the prosecutors can recommend some, err, anger management programme for the culprit?

This is no different than the west. It is the evil that celebrities and public figures have to put up with. Much for the reasons stated above.

No, is about the same. Last year in my country there are 2 or 3 artists (singers/actors) that were harassed and have their lives threat by crazy fans (male and female fans).
Social media only made things worse. And most of times the authorities didn’t do nothing.
If i remember correctly last year in US a singer was killed by a fan.
