That's a very unusual move, but I'm really happy they are doing this. And I'm amazed so many Japanese people are supporting this, although there isn't much for them to gain.
The response to the movie so far is overwhelmingly positive, no other recent movie (anime or not) has a better rating on certain Japanese cinema/movie websites (see here, for example), so I was a bit disappointed that it's only been ranking on #10 on the box office charts. I hope it'll have a llong tail and will eventually prove to be profitable. As for the foreign screening, I'm incredibly happy to read that Katabuchi is also coming to Germany. I had already given up on watching the movie on a big screen, but now I'll make sure to attend the screening (if I get the chance), even if I have to travel a long way to see it. |

Well, that's certainly not only covering traveling expenses. Screenings need to be set up in 14 countries in the first place, which surely involves a lot of work, including promotion. Last edited by Blackiris_ on Thu Nov 24, 2016 7:34 am; edited 1 time in total |

You're right, I've just read the campaign text and it says the screenings have already been decided, and the money is for the traveling expanses, lodging costs, etc. of Katabuchi. In this case ~100,000 USD strikes me as a pretty large amount, but I'm not sure how long the screening tour will be. For example, how many screening will there be per country, and how many months will the entire tour take. I'm pretty sure at least that they won't be wasting the money, or saying they need much more than they actually need. But of course it would be nice to have some concrete plans layed out. |

That's not what this movie is about, though. |

Doesn't really seem to be as big of a massive failure as certain twitter people are making it out to be. Not sure why they want it to do poorly, and I'm not sure why I want it to do well, to be honest, other than just to see another anime movie succeed, but anyway, this strikes me as good news. And not a huge failure.

While this isn't a bad movie,it seems to me that there'll be countries that say "You seem to have forgotten why it happened to you." Japan's horrendous atrocities throughout Asia and much of the Pacific during World War II might be one giant reason for it. The other one was their refusal to even consider surrender even when their own people were suffering. But,I doubt that that's a part of this movie. Sad to say it,but it's the truth.
