Yeah. Concrete Revolutio should've been first, Osomatsu-san second and Macross Delta only the third.

The instant I saw Delta listed I knew there'd be at least one comment like this, so I guess I'm at least glad it was gotten out of the way quickly this time.

(Not gonna lie, I love the salty tears of disgruntled Macross Delta anti-fans. They should just go back watching Frontier.) |
I'd rather go watch Macross Zero again than Frontier

Ah I like these awards, my tastes almost always aline with the readers of Newtype.
Fab to see Macross Delta going well so far. Certainly my favourite series of the year without question unless they mess up the last 3 episodes (unlikely).
Likewise the initial good showing for Kabaneri, adored that series.

Newtype awards are biased all hell towards late night anime ACJ affiliates like Bandai (I mean the magazine is named after a Gundam term), Aniplex (huge advertising affiliate)and Kadokawa themselves. When you have a movie like Your Name absolutely tearing it up in the Japanese mainstream like few Japanese animated films have in a while and it's losing out to some also ran late night otaku movie stuff some of which have mixed reviews from their own fanbases you can essentially just consider these blatant paid shilling and muse at it.
I mean A-1 Pictures won best studio 2 years in a row (see last years mid term results if you think these are a sham and where it made it so blatant that it's all based on production affiliation that it was easy not to take it seriously anymore) somehow (Probably solely cause they are owned by Aniplex) and it's still the same old seiyuu picking up the awards (both top seiyuu unsurprisingly affiliated with Sony Music) despite me having trouble thinking of anything particularly remarkable the likes of Hiroshi Kamiya or Kana Hanazawa did all year.

Love Live Sunshine should have been on top with Macross Delta being 2nd or 3rd, preferably 2nd but 1st is a bit of a stretch.

I think Love Live has it's own exclusive magazine and promotion (Dengeki G's if I'm not mistaken) and doesn't really need much vanity promotion from Newtype at this point since it can support itself, though I notice that there's absolutely nothing from the Summer season and it's almost exclusively stuff that started in Spring so who knows really. These aren't really serious awards but publicity things anyway though kind of like what you get from Famitsu for game reviews etc. If you want to talk actual serious awards you need to look more at things like the Nebula Awards, Mainichi Film Awards or Japan Media Arts Festival awards where it's an actual panel of critics and not just late night anime industry producers seemingly doing all the judging and vote tallying behind closed doors and just kind of handpicking their own stuff based on what is supposed to be getting the most publicity year after year by the looks of it. Those other awards also cover more than just late night anime.
It's also kind of a problem and kind of blatant when half of that stuff actually falls through with fans like it did in the last couple years though and all even Japan can do is sort of shrug and laugh at it all.

Studio Award
1.Satelight
2.WIT STUDIO
3.Sunrise
4.Bones
5.XEBEC
Really? The Japanese know nothing of animation studios.
And it seems that Japan is forgetting one punch man, because not listed.

Always fun to see people get salty over awards decided by popular vote.

Do you?
Sateligth was voted in because of Macross, i'd think.

Too bad Fafner only got recognized in the theme song category. That series really deserves more recognition especially after Exodus.

Concrete Revolutio gets no love
I'm very surprised that Joker Game made it into the preliminaries. While I very much enjoyed that show, it pretty much fell off the radar. What's with all the hate for Macross Delta? I admit it's not as good as Frontier, but it's still one of the better shows to come out this year.

Well at least Delta is underperforming for a Macross show on DVD/Blu-ray so there's that, only it's CD albums is doing well.

True (although granted people are buying less Blu-ray/DVD these days). Then again Delta's main goal has always been to sell music (CDs).
