Second novel has been released in 2015 (and was on the 4th place at the top of the bestsellers of 2015 in Japan), so could be a second season or a movie.

This was one of the better and more unique animes in the last couple of years, and I really enjoyed it. Would love to see a second season!

This is among my top five favorite anime series, and when it didn't sell many BDs, I thought that would be the last time I'd hear anything of it (outside of the novels). Be an OVA, be a second season, be a movie, be anything but a stageplay please. I'd love to see what changed Benten's outlook on life and indulge in more of the Black Prince's hijinks.

I did not get this series at all... can someone explain to me the scene where the woman kissed the raccoon dog in human form knowing full well it was a raccoon dog? They're either humans or tankuis, you can't have it either way when its convenient for your narrative.
"It's a metaphor." No, it's a myth of raccoon dogs taking human form made "real" and put in modern times done as lazily as possible with "human form = people" and "tanuki form = wild animal". {I raise my hand} "So you're saying all their problems are self inflected by taking human form as opposed to living any other way such as, I don't know, deep in the woods like any decent mythological being?" "No or maybe nooooo, he's neither a human man or a tanuki, he's just a guy and guys will be attracted to her."
"But she knows what he really is. I understand putting them in a stew pot more than... you know..."
I don't know the rules; Would it be a half human, half human-raccoon hybrid? Wait, that's one person and one third raccoon dog.
Show lost me in a total of one episodes. "Yeah, they're having problems as a species and as individuals." Really.
Of course maybe it's me as the only thing I thought about his Daddy being made into stew was what he tasted like. Must have been good if they keep going back for more.
"The Eccentric Family 2: Back for Seconds."
{EDIT}: You need to use spoiler tags. Especially when discussing major plot points from the previous season. ~ Psycho 101

Fingers very much crossed here, as a second season based on the second novel (in what I believe was planned as a trilogy) would be spectacularly good news.
I absolutely loved that show and desperately want to know how the story continues.

I'm not sure what your problem is. Are you worried that there is cross species interaction? In "Eccentric Family" Tanuki are sapient magical shapeshifter beings, no just animals, although most humans are unaware of this. There are also Tengu / human interactions in this show as well (Main female character was kidnapped by a Tengu who fell in love with her). Does that concern you?

I'm also not quite sure what the problem is, there tanuki, neither human nor raccon but with the same sentience than human, so falling in love/kissing one isn't really outrageous. I don't see where the metaphor or anything come in...
Personally I liked the show, but what stopped it from making it a great one in my mind was the inconsistence between the character being really sad that there dad died but seemingly not caring about it enough to do anything to stop the murderer...

Keh! I wouldn't put my hopes up. First, Baby Steps had an announcement, turned out to be live-action film. Then Saki, which is another live-action film...
Seriously, please stop trolling us, Nippon! We seriously love you, but we hate live-actions...

You might hate live-actions but that doesn't mean everyone does. IMHO Baby Steps suits a live action. It's a very down to earth story with nothing special in the setting that would be aided by being an Anime. I can't see Eccentric Family working as a live action without a massive budget.
