it's a shame we won't see the real ending in anime form but it's cool to see that Rie is still showing some love for one of her most well known roles

Did the author died before writing the end?

Sadly yes he did from cancer..... the last season was a way of giving the fans some form of conclusion with elements of what he planned to end the orignal series. his last years of life he struggled so hard in order to write the last few volumes that it took a heavy toll on him but he never gave up... even at his death bed he came up with scenarios and notes and drafts to finish off the last 2 volumes and trusted them to his publishers to finish in his stead.

i think he can rest easy now that his beloved work will finally be concluded.

I'm really glad this is finally ending. He literally worked until death to get this finished...I'm glad that work wasn't wasted. It may not be exactly the same as what he would've given us, but since it's based on his ideas/plans, I'm sure it is still faithful. I can't wait.

Rie being awesome as usual.

Pretty much how I feel. I have a ton of nostalgia for the series and will enjoy reading it through if it gets licensed.

I can't help but be a harsh critic of it and say that it's mediocre, but its legacy can still be felt even more than a decade after the first novel was written. The anime resonated with me when I was just starting to become an otaku, and I can fairly assume the same with many other people.

Gah, I'm being overly sentimental. Ah well.

On a vaguely related note, Louise is best girl.

Familiar of zero is far better then it has any right to be, and that is because of all of his hard work to be sure!
