Saori Makishima must be going WUT?!!
From stigmatized (both male and female) cliché stereotype to trendy.
Confirms my thoughts on fashion trends in general... Trends are STUPID!

First they wear the clothes, saying it's all in good fun, and the next thing they know they'll be in the maid cafes of Akiba, desperately crying out to their beloved Kumi-tans as they wield the latest Valkyrie Drive BDs and Miia body pillows.

If only some of those "otaku girls" can get together with some real "otaku guys", it'll be nerd heaven. I was a nerd in the '70's and it's good to see girls not sticking with "fashion" created by the media to objectify them and making their own individual statements instead.

So I guess this is a slight normcore resurgence in Japan via otaku stereotypes? I dig it (for now). Although yeah, this does seem like a lot of Makishima clones.

That second outfit looks like what Steve Urkel wore.

Trends are... nope. Wouldn't really associate those clothes with otaku at all. The bandanna and checkered top bring to mind the more stereotypical version of random farm hillbilly's than anything (well apart from the guy that isn't real)... Maybe that's just me though.

I recall in junior high for a few weeks it was a trend for the girls to have pacifiers. Needless to say, trends are frequently stupid and are just based around a do-what-everyone-else-is-doing mentality.

It's not that different to hipsters. (Nerd glasses & unfashionable clothes)

It's like how men use to wear heels and then women started wearing them.
