Because it was planned from the start.
And as a toku fan, I have to strongly disagree with you about the show being a debacle
It was a great and fun show, and I'm glad to be getting more

Because it was originally planned to be 24 episodes, just split over two cours. The 1st cour is not the complete season

1. Because it was always meant to have one, it's a split cour show and technically this isn't a second season.
2. Also it was a really nice and enjoyable show.

I really don't get people's beef with this show. It was buddy cop show/tokusatsu homage, and it was never meant to be taken very seriously. It's not exactly Active Raid's fault that after people saw the colorful, upbeat trailers, and read the director's comments where he said he wanted to make something fun, they somehow still expected a a dark and edgy serious show a la Psycho-Pass.

well yeh the anime aint anythin special just like endride for example that airs this season and also gets 24ep, really dunno why they gamble on such anime with 24ep~, while there are tons of manga/LN out there that are good and would deserve an anime adaptation or just go and make a sequel for some series that sold good there are quite a few of such that were selling around 10k+ and need another season.....

Commas and full stops, man.

Life's unfair, okay? The only choice is to be like an adult and accept it.

Seconded. While it's not the greatest thing ever, it is a pretty big fun show. Very Patlabor.

There's already a clip of the new opening song on Youtube: Official link.

Personally, I think it sounds pretty good. Presumably the initial visuals won't be too impressive, going by previous experience, but they'll probably evolve over time once again. Hopefully the new ending theme will be about as good as the first one.

For my money, I thought Active Raid was a nice enough series with several notable episodes, including the sixth one. Nothing particularly ambitious nor all that serious and smart to begin with, which it wasn't really trying to be, and always heavily inspired by the Tokusatsu / Super Sentai genre in both form and function. I can understand that's not what a lot of people wanted to watch, but you don't need to maintain a grudge against the show for this.

In any case, I will also point out that the series had comparatively okay sales for the winter 2016 season (in the 1500 to 2000 range), especially considering each box set included four episodes and was more expensive than the average. The decision to make a second season was already part of the initial plan, to be sure, but they could have easily cancelled it if the numbers had been a complete flop. Thankfully, the show wasn't entirely unappreciated within Japan itself and actually got relatively high weekly rankings on Nicovideo too.

OK, I'll try to explain. In Japan, when a show is made, it is already decided how many episode will be created. These episodes are contracted, and in 99% of cases, even if the show is doing absolutely horrible it won't be canceled mid-season (looking at you, America). In some cases, when a show is contracted to be longer then one cour, the company might take a cour off in order to maybe answer to some criticisms, or sometimes just for convenience. This is called a split-cour. In almost all split-cours, the ratings and success of the first cour is irrelevant.

I hope I have explained it well enough for you to understand.

As for the show, it was decent. 7/10. Would watch second cour. Loved the armored suit designs. Liko is adorable, I want her on my phone.

It is amusing when people get so salty when "the show THEY don't like (or outright hate)" gets an additional season.

It isn't as if you are being forced to watch it nor are you probably being forced to directly fund a show that you didn't care for in the first place, I am certain there are other medias say music or movies that aren't to your liking that continue to gain additional releases.

Well its not really being salty for me the anime was barely average think i rated it 6/10, because there were moments when it was abit interesting, the main thing is why waste money on such anime that doesnt sell, because as far as i remember it didn't even sell 1k bd-dvd and its also an original so it just kinda makes me wonder how is smth like this worth making more then 12ep o.O While we got some popular and good manga which would deserve an anime and dont get it or anime that sold 10k+ each volume and still waitin for that sequel.
So yeh its not really about hate and stuff but just when ya look at some facts makes ya wonder why it is worth makin more then 12ep specialy when i read lately how they cry about not making enough money with anime and stuff like this just kinda prove then why they trow away bunch of money on stuff that simply aint accepted largely.

Agreed. I definitely got some Patlabor vibes. I don't think it was as good as Patlabor, to me, but it was still fun.

The first volume sold 2,338. The second volume sold 1,468 in its first week. There will be 3 total volumes, so it looks like an average of about 2k seems likely. Not fantastic, but it's hardly the epic flop that people are calling it out as.

Because like Dmonhiro said, they had 24-26 episodes planned from the beggining (before they knew how it would sell) and in the current industry a show almost never gets cancelled because of low sales (they air the initially planned episodes).
The episode counts are contracted and the timeslots bought in anticipation.
So, they can't cancel it because of low sales

yeh i know all that but wouldnt it be better then to just plan such anime with 12ep instead to see how it goes and then make a 2nd season after 1year or so, idk for this is just waste of money and the whole blame why they suffer so much with money losses because they make anime which do not sell :/
