C- on "Story"?
You are being way too generous with this title.
An F would actually be a high rate for it, really lol

I was trying my best not to mind the "C" grade for the aspects reviewed. Somehow, I think the reviewer was drunk when he pressed "C" instead of an "F".

I was a bit surprised that nothing from the broader plot introduced late in the first season found its way into the second season. This one is strictly about various fanservice scenarios. Then again, maybe the people making the show figured out what worked, and didn't want to wind up with a non-ending.

I really should have asked Cassandra Morris about the whole Maken-ki situation when I met her in June last year. I mean not only is her one and only Funimation role an ecchi harem series, but it wasn't even a popular ecchi harem series.
Judging by the pseudonym and the absence in Season 2 I get the feeling she's not particularly proud of the role. Like maybe she was just in the area for a convention, a guy at Funimation offered her the role, she thought 'Hey whatever a job's a job' but insisted on not being credited. The whole situation is so confusing.
What's not confusing is Scott Freeman's absence which is, to say the least, understandable. It's difficult for me to watch anything with him in it these days without thinking of what he did. ESPECIALLY when he's playing a pervert and talking about how he lives a 'very private life' in the commentary.

rather amusing that Chris Sabat thought it was worthwhile to bring in Stephanie Sheh to play that kid cosplaying as Illya from Fate/kaleid in ep 4. didn't expect that

Anyone else kind of pissed that they replaced Cassandra Morris? For one, she's great, and apparently isn't tied to a union if she could work this out. Also, this wasn't Broadcast Dubbed, so Funimation could have found a way around her schedule easily and released this whenever she could come - and even then they could substitute her lines over if the Broadcast Dub wasn't available in her schedule.

I often wonder why fan service even exists. It only pose as a distraction from a good story. Not that this piece of trash has one to begin with.

You know, it says something about a series when a C- grade is criticized as being too generous.
I did consider also rating this one in the D range, but I did find more of this one to be tolerable than the first series, hence the slightly higher grade.

The Der Untergang parody makes up for everything else the series did.

I would guess that is the case. I know that some LA-based actors have found their way into Funimation dubs because they happened to be in the area when a potential role came up. Richard Epcar ended up getting roles in The Woman Called Fujiko Mine and Michiko and Hatchin thanks in large part to being in the area for other reasons. I have to figure there isn't much chance that Funimation was going to pay well enough for Cassandra to make a special trip.

That part was pretty funny. I certainly wasn't aware that it was known well enough in Japan to find its way into anime.

Honestly, I can't say I've seen a show that had its good story ruined by fanservice. Then again there aren't a whole lot of fanservice heavy shows with a good story in the first place.
Usually I find the problem with these types of shows is that they always find a way to take these fanservicey scenarios and shoehorn in a serious storyline which takes up way too much screentime and is more often than not really badly written. So basically the fanservice ruins the story and the story ruins the fanservice. I just don't see the appeal at all.
If you want softcore masturbation fodder there's plenty of shows that are basically all fanservice. If you want a good story then why in God's name are you watching an ecchi harem series?

This, This right here is the true shame. The First Season may have been full of fanservice but at least it tried to translate the manga's story and translate some of the fighting bits well.
Season two is a totally different show, everything about the story is gone except for the last episode, which features none of the Main Characters for some reason, and the entire namesake of the show, the Club and battles with Maken, is totally tossed aside for more fanservice.
I'll give it one thing, it knows what it's hook is and doesn't shy away, Season 1 was an anime adaptation. Season 2 is practically a totally different series with the only linking factor being that of the characters. Also I like that Season two change it's fanservice into bouncing chests as opposed to the really awkward panty shots every 15 seconds taht season 1 had.
I don't even read the manga for this but the small parts I checked out actually have a somewhat interesting plot with conspiracies, Gods, reincarnation and Takeru is actually important and his growth from a no body into a warrior is somewhat interesting.
