Haven't seen this show.
Probably should though. |

It's a very strange anime. The old Buried Treasure column got me interested years ago.

If it ever gets rereleased, the manga absolutely must be license-rescued along with it. It's a strange but distinctively unique story, yet the anime only covers half of the manga, and it stops at the most depressingly awkward spot imaginable. Without the manga, newbies probably wouldn't be aware of how good the story actually gets.

Ugh I really have to watch this, but also I think this would be a nice little manga for someone to license again. I only was able to get the first volume, so I guess I can't say too much about the series as a whole, but it's short enough that a publisher could put out a nice little omnibus edition.
Related: In terms of cute girls with violent monster things, it would be pretty sweet if someone released the Shadow Star manga again. |

It is sad that they don't have the dub for this title, but it is sadder that once again it is limited to the USA (don't know if Canada also), I mean, come one, if crunchy can cover the world over (except china), why can't they at least try? I mean, at the very least an english to spanish translation would cover most of the americas (except for quebec and brazil).

Rereleases would bring back some interest, yeah, but what I want is to see Milk Closet and Propeller Heaven translated. (Two very similar mangas by the same author.)

From what I remember, would it be right to say that this series is deceptively dark and morose? I would nonetheless be game for watching it, were it available internationally.

Keep your eyes open and pay attention as the credits roll on the last episode.
I had to stop, go back and confirm if I really saw what I thought I saw. The CPM set I have came with the manga. So thankfully I could continue on. CPM seemed to be on a roll licensing shows where very disturbing things happened to children with this, Shadow Star Narutaru and Now and Then Here and There. |

Yeah, if a publisher got interested in releasing/rereleasing Hitoshi Tomizawa's entire catalog in English, I would love them forever. His work really hasn't gotten a lot of exposure in the NA market and it's so unique that I think there would be a decent niche market for it. I'm sure it'd also help that all of his series are really short; I don't think he ever did anything longer than 4 volumes in length. Even though I still have CPM's manga releases of Treasure Hunter Jubei and Alien Nine, I'd gladly buy them again to show my support (though honestly, they can probably leave out Jubei without many caring; it wasn't very good and didn't have the cute-kids-getting-traumatized-by-crazy-creatures theme that he developed starting with Alien Nine so it's really out of place among the rest of his work at this point). I personally loved Milk Closet even more than Alien Nine and bought second-hand Japanese copies of that manga since it was never released in the US before and the Japanese editions went out of print; I'd love to have an official English copy of that! And I haven't been able to find translations of Propeller Heaven anywhere, legitimate or otherwise. Then there's Yumihari which was part of Gentosha Comics' ill-fated English edition of Web Comic GENZO. I have all of the English editions of that digital manga magazine that were released along with a few of the Japanese versions after they stopped releasing it in English, but no scanlation team ever picked it up to complete it (as far as I know). I'd love to finish reading it. |

Yes, definitely. It's only cutsie with its chibi like designs in the way Magica Madoka is cute. Unfortunately the OVAs end with a gigantic cliffhanger. You need to read the manga to finish it, which is also unfortunately out of print. |
