Just ordered the first three volumes from Right Stuf's Yen Press sale, along with a bunch of other light novels and manga. Looking forward to reading them.
Also received the Blu-ray/DVD combo set of the anime today. |

Hmm, tempted to pick this up; i did enjoy the anime quite a bit. However, i enjoyed Spice and Wolf as well, and was disappointed in how simply written the light novels were. Maybe i'll find a sample or something online and test it out.

Most light novels are simply written because they are aimed at a more casual audience that might not be really into reading at all. I actually thought Spice and Wolf was a bit more 'complex' compared to the writing of other light novels. Then again, most japanese translations do usually make the text seem a bit more simple than in their original state. It’s nice to hear this novel reveals more details about Maou. I'll probably check it out. |

I will also add here (and probably should have put this in the review) that someone who has watched the anime version but not read the first two novels can continue the story with novel 3 with little or no complications.

I agree Key since they adapted the first two volumes as 13 episodes so they basically didn't skip much.

Now I am more interested in picking up the novels. This is exactly the information I am looking for. I don't want my anime, manga, and novels to just be the same story - I want more from the print versions. More character background. More story, More of everything! I would still need the first two books in the series though, just to satisfy the collector in me. Spice and Wolf pulled this off quite well I think. I am looking forward to the last volume to be released by Yen Press in April... |

Still amazed this never got a second season. It sold pretty well, but I guess it didn't boost light novels sales enough to warrant making season. I REALLY liked the anime. A lot more than I ever thought I would. I guess i'll have to buy the novels now to find out what happens next.

I didn't realize that anime only covered the first two volumes, usually it seems like it's quite a few more than that. I should probably find some time to read the 3 I have.
Thanks, that's good to know in case I feel like skipping them. I'll probably read them anyway for a refresher, but in case I'm feeling lazy, at least I won't miss out on much. |

thats really convenient cause while i do love the story i'm not exactly thrilled to reread the series if the anime adapts the novel well. guess i gotta go to my local chapters and see if they have it in stock |

I've read all 3 of these books and I have to say the anime adapted the first two surprisingly well. For example, the first book pretty much covers word for world what happens in the anime, with the only change being Emi's conversation with her friends being slightly longer and Mao name dropping a "certain" character.
To be honest I love these books and I'm still shocked this series never got a second season. I wonder if it didn't sell very well or something. |
