Have to say that I liked the movies as a whole and while I agree with the reviewer that the writing was a little off and didn't engage the audience as fully in the story as it could have if better done, I don't think it was so bad. Not having read the manga, I found the reveal that the General spoiler[was the colossal titan and that the government not only knew the truth about titans but were creating them]were interesting twists. I still cared about the band intent on repairing the wall, though I might have supported Shikishima. Loved that reveal that outside the walls was Tokyo but thought spoiler[the "surprise" ending reveal that "the machines"(??) or possibly computers were behind the government and the walls, etc. were one big experiment]was a bit much. Sort of like the end to Inception, the audience raged when the top wobbled and they didn't show if it fell or not. I might buy the DVD because I was expecting the movie's quality to be something like '60's Godzilla but found it surprisingly well done.

I think this is the only other review I've seen of this movie that isn't fueled by bias. That is to say, not blatantly influenced by bias. In fact, I think this is probably the only (somewhat) positive review I've seen of this movie. I'm surprised it got a B. That said, I don't know if the reduction of Mikasa to a damsel-in-distress stereotype from the original protector role should be counted as a flaw. If this was to be reviewed without the existence of source material (the original manga), would there be a complaint towards Mikasa's role reduction if that was the character's set role in the movie.

I haven't seen the movies, but based on concept alone, I still would consider it a flaw that the main female character serves only as a damsel in distress and love interest to the male protagonist, because it's a shitty and boring role to give to your female protagonist |

Yep. Even without taking the original manga Mikasa into account, regulating your main female protagonist to Damsel status does her no favors.

not quite. mikasa have always been in love with him since they were kids and definitely must not change, but having her as the damsel in distress, (which would have been better off if it was krista) THAT THERE IS SACRILEGE TO A TEE and gives this movie a definite warning sign for die hard AOT fans to avoid this the plague right along with the abomination that is Junior High. its a safe to say that when it comes to live action shows based off of anime series, all of them are gonna be completely inferior compared to death note. |

I thoroughly enjoyed this when I saw it in cinemas last month (Australia FTW), but there's two things that ruined it for me.
Booing in the cinema when the spoiler[colossal titan] was revealed and a couple of people in front of me saying "well that was s***, we should get a refund" after the film was done. Was I really the only one in the cinema who liked it? Have we gone so far into extremity that a film cannot be decent, and it has to be fantastic or terrible? I get the flaws, but I don't think they cripple the movie. |

Well, there has been, still is and will always be people who can be quite extravagant with their opinion. Whether the people you saw booing and wanting refunds were just salty nerds or justifiably displeased, those people are never going away regardless of the medium. That's their opinion. What you think of the movie is your own opinion. Simply put, try not to let it bother you. Dude, I still watch the Resident Evil movies! I know they are dumb s**tty schlock and I continue to watch those movies because for some damn reason, I, at the very least, can tolerate watching them. |

There were about 25 people in the cinema (other than me) and they all booed. Sure, two people I get, but the whole cinema? |

Oh my. Well... F**k. If it's the whole cinema, I can only assume one or two angry nerds started a chain reaction or all of the salty Attack on Titan fans went to watch the movie (some presumably for a second time) just to crap on it. That is levels above, dude. Well, whaddya gonna do? |

Maybe they thought the Colossal Titan's identity was canon and resented having it spoiled for them? I've got lots of friends who are "anime-only" when it comes to AoT. |

This movie is not the anime, AT ALL. I like that. It means I don't have overlapping stories, and merely two interpretations. Another thing that sucks is that people are complaining about the overuse of CGI in movies. So, AOT finally gives us practical effects and then people ask for CGI again. MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MINDS ALREADY! |

Saw this last night, and yeah, I was also quite disappointed with how Mikasa was handled. (Not surprised, mind you, given how she was portrayed in the first movie.) While I wouldn't exactly call her a damsel in distress, she was definitely never allowed to take the initiative on anything and too often wallowed in indecisiveness. Definitely didn't help that, her actress, Kiko Mizuhara, can't act worth a damn; she was definitely cast more for beautiful features than acting ability. Almost everyone else, contrarily, seemed to be overacting.
Actually didn't mind the change in story approach and liked the explanation the movie provides for where the Titans come from. And as Hope said, the movie was pretty carefully and pointedly constructed. Not so sure how much I liked the direction things went with the epilogue scene, though (yes, there is a post-credits scene), as makes the movies ring a bit too much like a certain other current Hollywood franchise. |
