Yup, this is definitely one of those shows that doesn't seem to appear what it is until you see the ending of the first episode. Surprisingly, I like it. Some bits feels out of place compared to the manga but overall still retains the mood of what I had wanted.

Quote: | Interestingly, she sees the zombies as being surrounded by hazes of dark energy, but whether that is just her personal interpretation or actually means something is unclear at this point. |
What I got out of this was that she tries seeing them as masses of evil/monsters to be smashed instead of people she remembers. I might be misremembering (my memory IS pretty bad) but didn't the haze disappear for a little bit in one of the zombies, when she saw her phone? It looked to me like she realized that was a person, and it made her feel conflicted for a while.
If the haze didn't disappear then she was probably just making the couple picture connection with her past, though. I might be getting some weird interpretation out of nothing.

Kurumi: Notice me, Senpai *Senpai becomes a zombie* On second thought, never mind.
Looks like we might get some info on how it all started next episode if I am interpreting the preview correctly

This is, against all odds, the series I am most looking forward to seeing play out this season. I hope it stays this good. And to think, the only reason I even tried the first episode was because of the review guide.

I'm a pretty die-hard School-Live fan, so my expectations for this anime were very high. So far, I haven't been disappointed at all: it's pretty amazing how faithful this show has been to the original story.
Sure, there are some differences, but the tone is exactly the same, and the show itself has taken great pains to point out to existing fans that all of their favorite storylines will appear on screen in some form. It almost feels like the creator decided that, if he had to do it all over again, he'd write the story this way (which makes perfect sense, considering that the original author is apparently writing the shows' screenplays).
Also, I'm going to keep all of my posts in this thread entirely spoiler-free (I won't even put spoilers under spoiler-tags). I don't want to inadvertently ruin this story for anybody.

I hate zombie themed shows, so I definitely wont be watching this one.

Thanks for the review! This gem would have slipped under my radar without it.

reminds me of higurashi/umineko; I would not call this one the hidden gem of the season, it seems to be gettin enough attention and this season is weak so there's not really anything that seems to be better.

It's getting a fair amount of attention now, but I don't recall there being much buzz about it coming in. That's why I think it still qualifies as a "hidden gem."
But I will agree that this does seem like a relatively weak season overall, and that may be helping it.

To be fair, they couldn't really create buzz about the show without breaking the first episode. It was definitely the show I was looking forward to the most, but there was no way to actually communicate that to anyone.

Yeah, I remember remarking to someone that it was "hard to talk about why I like School-Live without spoiling the plot" back when the show was first announced.

All I knew going in was the description on Anichart, which was basically "Girls live at school and are only survivors of zombie apocalypse" and I was like "Okay, well, why were they staying at the school and how were they the only survivors?"
I don't think Megu-sensei is a figment of Yuki's imagination, though. In the 2nd episode, when Miki's worried about Yuki, the others say that she's not alone, she's with Megu. If Megu wasn't real, they wouldn't've said it.

Dunno but there is something off with the anime adaption, maybe because they changed some events that i feel bored, i still think that the manga is managed 10 times better.

It could also mean that they figure Yuki is fine because the Megu in her head would keep her out of trouble.
