you'd think out of all the anime i've seen with people changing into animals this wouldn't bother me.
but for some odd reason it does. maybe reading it will change my mind. i haven't heard of this one. |

I was planning on asking people's opinion on this book in the manga forum, actually, as my opinion is pretty torn on the book. After hearing the premise of the book, I was almost sure I would hate it. I mean, a man in love with a dog? That's just....unsettling really.
But then Del Rey sent me a review copy of Vol. 5. Granted, since this was the first volume I had read I couldn't identify the repetitive nature of some parts of it that the reviewer pointed out, but overall I was surprised by how much I liked it. It took a very disturbing concept and made a sweet romance out of it. I was as surprised as anybody, but I was actually excited to check out more of the series. When I got my next visit from the Del Rey manga fairy, Pon-Chan Vol. 6 was the first one I dug out of the pile, and I sat down to read it, expecting it to be just as charming as the last volume. And I hated it. I spell it out more clearly in the review at the link, but I think the series really derails in Vol. 6 when spoiler[Ponta meets Gang and Mirai meets Aoka, two potential mates that seem MUCH more preferable than putting Ponta and Mirai together]. And the fact that she's stuck as a dog for much of the issue just continually drives home the fact that you're supposed to be rooting for a sort-of bestiality. Ick...no thanks. Anyone else whose read more of the series have any thoughts? |
