None of the links are currently working, probably due to all the traffic from this and other sites.

Both links work fine for me, and it's nigh impossible that traffic from this survey would even have a discernible impact on Geocities' servers, let alone /. them.
Perhaps Geocities was temporarily down when you tried to follow the links, or there's a problem somewhere between your ISP and Yahoo (which owns & hosts Geocities). -t |

Same here. Looks like they are not accessible from CA, UK, and TW. So it's available only with Canadian IP or what? |

Darnit! I'm really sorry about this, folks. I hadn't figured the transfer limits in this thing. What is indeed happening is that Geocities counts the number of bytes READERS are downloading (i.e. to do the survey), and put a cap on that variable. The limit is something like 4.2 MB, and that's around 30 wouldbe survey victims, err, responders. I'll see what I can do to remedy the situation tonight (hopefully so that folks can do this stupid thing on Friday). ru (grumbling something about being an idiot) |

OK, let's see if the following works. I've put the questionnaire on a different web site (and as soon as the intro page free's up that should link to the new site). The URLs are:
intro: http://members.shaw.ca/ru.igarashi/Surveys/fans/ questionnaire: http://members.shaw.ca/ru.igarashi/Surveys/fans/questionnaire.html I tried a test submission and that worked, but I'm not sure how it will work in general. Please let me know if there's more trouble with that. ru |

I was getting toward the end of the survey when I clicked on one of the links to skip to a different section and it erased all of the answers I had previously input. Just a heads-up.

I'm really sorry about that (having answered the survey a couple dozen times during testing, I feel your pain). Hmm, I fixed it an hour ago, so it might be a cached version. I don't suppose using the "Back" button got your answers back (yeah, like the world is that kind)? For anyone else reading this thread, please hit your "Reload" before proceding with the survey, so that you end up with the "fixed" version. The thing that kills me on this problem is that I know I had those links working during the tests. I guess one of my last minute tweeks did me in. ru |

The links appear to be working for me currently, I guess the original links are for Canadian IP only....
They still won't work for me, I am located in the USA in California. But the new links posted above to work just fine, perhaps the news should be alter to reflect the new links. |

Yet another update. I've tried putting a redirect in place of the questionnaire. I'm a bit worried that it won't work, so those of you who seem to have problems with the direct link to the questionnaire (i.e. as opposed to the intro page which then links to the questionnaire), please try the shaw.ca links provided elsewhere in this thread, if you haven't already tried. In the meanwhile, I'll continue to try to patch things up.
Thanks for verifying the links, Deltakiral. ru On a completely different note, if this survey actually manages to complete usefully, do you folks want me to post the results summary here? Or is an announcement in the news page with the link to the web site sufficient (provided the editors are willing to post the announcment of the results)? |

I would certianly love to see the results. I missed taking the survey last year (and then found out it hadn't occurred) but I really enjoyed looking at the results of previous years and taking the survey again. It's really interesting to look at thanks for taking the time to do it! |

Oh My G**, I've had a lousy day. Around 11:00, the network grid died. that meant the server running my survey processing was unavailable. I phoned the service desk and there was a message saying, if you are in these areas, we are experiencing technical problems and are working to solve them. yadda yadda. That went on for a couple of hours. But it doesn't end there.
To make matters worse, my router seems to have died, too. Right at that time, my local network died, and I'm having problems re-establishing it. Which is why this message is so late in coming. I've cobbled a solution, and I'm limping along right now. For all of you who got to the end of the questionnaire only to be faced with a connection error, I'm sorry. This year luck seems to be totally against this survey. ru (paniku! pankiku!) |

Heh, yeah. I tried to do the survey last night around 10... everything was going well until I went to hit submit.
ERROR! Fun... so I hit back and tried to resubmit a number of times after stopping my downloads... but to no avail. I was stubborn and played with trying to get it to go through like 10 times as I didn't want my 30 minutes to go to waste, don't think it even went through. |

I'm sorry about that. There was an odd firewall block that affected about 10 people after the site change. My fault for not thinking things through thoroughly (in both the original setup and the hasty site change). ru P.S. I forgot to mention the firewall was fixed. Again, I'll understand anyone not wanting to retry the questionnaire... it can be painful just thinking about doing it again (believe me, I know). |
