My guess is that spoiler[Niki is Hotaka's relative and that the girls bathing suit hides a similar scar. If she is his illegitimate half sister it might explain why the mother was so mad. Other possibilities are twin sister or first cousin.]

Interesting premise, disappointing end. It is still a good read though.

Btw the repeated page is in chapter 4 (p17 & p18 of that chapter), therefore the real page 18 is missing (got it also) ;(

This review reminded me to finish the rest of it. The ending was certainly disappointing, with the way they rushed the resolution.
But reading this manga made me wish I could relive youth again. |

I guessed that and I'd never heard of this series before this review. If we're right it really is very predictable. |

I have no problem with predictable, as long as it is well written otherwise. We will just have to wait and see.
I agree with Rebecca that the hair is well drawn, though I do have my doubts that you could do that hair style in real life. It will be interesting to see how the story justifies the blond though. |

I per-ordered this. Hearing that a page gets repeated worries me. =/

@midori kou
It is annoying but a very minor problem. It does not cause a problem in following the story. |

That misprint is... bizarre. I read the volume two days ago and I don't recall it being in my copy.

The misprint is in my copy hopefully they watch themselves next time since this was so widespread. Also, hope they release corrected volumes later.

The misprint is not that hard to deal with. Use the link above to find the missing page. Save the picture of the page to your computer. Open the page in a paint program of some sort and resize it to a bit smaller than 5 inches by 7 inches. Print it out in grayscale. Cut the print to size and put it in your copy of the volume. Problem solved.

Looking forward to getting my copy soon (re-printed page and all). And I agree with Alan45, don't mind if something is predictable. As long as it is well written.
Though, I had no idea that this was a 4 volume series. |

Hm, what do have here? A dejected main character who feels he is not worthy of the heroine? I think champagne is raining down from the sky right now. Jesus is being reborn and everyone is chanting Hallelujah. Finally I see a protagonist who isn't full of himself or perverted.
... At least that's what I get from the review, but I shouldn't really judge a book by its cover. Might as well give this a try sometime in the future. |

Thanks for the link! I hadn't gotten around to reading my copy yet, so I will print it out and get it in there somehow... As for the story, up to the ending, which other people have mentioned is a slight disappointment, this was one of my favorite recent manga. I really love the characters and the way the story is told. I wasn't as upset by the ending as many people online, though I do with some aspects of it were different. I am looking forward to reading the official translation. I know that the fan translations got slowed down because of lack of a translator at one point and I "know" one of the people who picked up the slack from various websites. I am curious as to how the story reads in an official translation by someone who, one presumes, has access to help from the Japanese publisher to figure out the exact meaning of certain passages. There are some things that were rather unclear and I want to know if they were intended to be that way, which is a strong possibility, or if it was a translation issue. I always wonder how much input translators seek from the Japanese publisher... The art is really one of the strong points of the manga, with Niki and her hair being one of the highlights. She is also one of the highlights in terms of the writing. She is a variation on a theme commonly used by Takemiya-sensei: The unapproachable beauty. Starting with her first published work, Watashitachi no Tamura-kun, and the character of Hiroka, to Ami from Toradora, and, of course, Kouko Kaga from Golden Time, Niki is cut out of the same mold, but just as different from the others as they are from each other. She is, at the same time, strong willed yet massively insecure. It is her insecurities as much as the inner lack of self worth of Hotaka that drive the angst levels through the roof in the story. Really, none of the main characters in the story is really whole. They are all broken, twisted, bent, and battered in some way by their pasts. On-chan is the healthiest, mentally, but she has her moments, too. I do love the story! Can't wait for the rest of the volumes to come to my door. |
