The reviews at the end are in error--the "perishable" review is for Azazel but the intro mentions Devils and Realist, which was from last week.
Also wow Azazel sounds terrible. |

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (TV)
I mostly disagree with the recommendation of watching F/Z before going into UBW (TV). Yes, there's the debate of watching the prequel first or the sequel first (for all intent and purpose, I include Studio DEEN's adaptations as valid F/Z sequels). I've watched DEEN's adatptations (F/s -> UBW (film)), then F/Z and then ufotable's UBW (TV). And I feel that any one of these entries can be understood by those who are new to the Fate/verse. {People, we are not going to have yet another debate on the proper order in which to watch these series. If I have to delete posts, then I will. ~nbahn} |

So much anime is so relentlessly, blandly pleasant that I enjoyed Azazel's deliberate unpleasantness, but it doesn't have much cleverness to it. Its comic misanthropy is kind of shallow but not really funny enough to make up for it. Still a nice chance of pace. I'd call it a "Rental" in this scale.
It's a real shame it doesn't include the OVA though since that includes the best episodes. It's the best example of Rinko turning from generic female protagonist to comic asshole. |

I noticed that this week's shelves had several exact items that I have, including that Guts figure. It makes sense seeing as how Daniel and I seem to have been collecting for about the same amount of time.

I think that there might still be a slight error with You're Being Summoned, Azazel.
It is listed as Rental, but the review ends with "I couldn't recommend this show in good conscious to anyone." That makes me think that it should be Perishable. I definitely will not be watching it, even if I could borrow it. Gingitsune seems like it might be worth a look though. I really like Armitage III. For me it is definitely one of the better science fiction anime movies/OVAs that I have seen. And Naomi Armitage is high on my list of favorite female characters. But I own all of the Pioneer/Geneon releases, so I will not be buying it from Funimation. I am surprised that School Rumble is getting a S.A.V.E. release. I really thought that it was more popular than that. It is definitely one of my favorite comedies. |

This is actually a re-release as a SAVE title. They have been on SAVE for a while now, I think it has to do with the show being released so many times. |

I am delighted that Gingitsune is considered Shelf Worthy. I also recommend this slice-of-life anime that I feel has flown under the radar.

I too enjoyed Gingitsune greatly when it aired, late 2013. Too bad the Japanese disc sales were rather abysmal so we're likely not going to see any further adaptations made of it...

Me too. The show is fantastic at conjuring up just the right mood out of nowhere. It's very charming and genuine, and a stand-out in its genre for me as well. The only noteworthy negative for me was that Haru had a habit of quickly becoming grating. Also worth noting is Kanemoto Hisako's great performance as the lead, Makoto. She nails the character. |

First off, thank you for showing my collection Bamboo, I appreciate it!
Guts? You mean the Batman figure? I wish I had a Guts figure! But regardless, do you tend to prefer a lot of older titles and have a lot of numerous OOP dvds? I sold off my old GTO, Gungrave, Trigun, Serial Experiments Lain, and Chobits DVDS for re releases for shelve space. |

Its Fate/stay night:UBW Box Set 1 not Fate/Zero. The Fate/Zero box set 1 is way cheaper than this only $200 at rightstuf |

Just a quibble, but Inari (Inari Ōkami) is a proper name and should be capitalized rather than italicized. And as I understand it, while s/he is an agricultural deity (including foxes) whose messengers are fox spirits (kitsune), Inari is not a fox spirit. Also, did you mean "inversion" instead of "aversion" or were you using it in the obsolete sense of prevention?
Anyway, I really enjoyed Gingitsune much more than I expected to from the beginning. It was a little too laid back at times, but still kept me interested. |

I've kept my old discs, including Gungrave and Trigun, even with the current or pending rereleases of Geneon or Bandai titles. I kind of like the collector aspect of having something from companies that aren't around anymore. Plus there is the nostalgia factor of seeing those old company logos come up when I pop in a disc. Once in a while, I will double dip on something, but even then, I keep the old discs since I can't seem to convince myself to part with something I've had for so many years. What you said about freeing up shelf space reminds me of having to explain to my best friend's wife that many of the big box sets that I have actually only have 26 episodes on them. She was rather surprised to find out that 3 or 4 episodes on a disc was the norm when I really got serious about collecting. My God, am I the ONLY one on the whole damn, well, anywhere who couldn't stand Gingitsune? What pretty much everyone else sees as a beautiful, calming show, I see as a boring, predictable, groan-worthy disaster. I gave it four episodes, and I couldn't find anything to get engrossed in. The characters were bland and forgettable, the stories were total voids, and the attempts at "sad" moments were so idiotic it was impossible for me to give a rat's ass.
If you liked the show like everyone else on the planet, that's fine. More power to you. I just think it's a piece of shit. Now I know how Doug Walker feels about District 9. To be honest, You're Being Summoned, Azael sounds far more interesting to me. There, I said it. |
