I applaud the effort but J-Horror isn't a thing anymore, novelty and uniqueness of the genre long gone. We may see the renaissance one day, but now is not the time. So, I'd rather see new concepts applied to stuff like Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist.

Yeah it's going to be hard for J-horror to get the same attention in the US like it was 10 years back. It doesn't help recent J-horrors that came out in Japan are not getting US releases.

Most of the films receive poor reception even in Japan, there's no point to bring box office bombs and critical disasters to other territories.

Well they're not putting it on Dramafever. Not to go off topic, but I've seen Korean films that got bad/poor reception in South Korea yet those bad/poor Korean films like this one for example end up getting license in the US and stream on sites like Dramafever, Hulu, etc.... The same goes for Chinese films (regardless if it's from Hong Kong, Mainland China, or Taiwan), even the bad crappy one can get picked up in US. So yeah.

Oh, I meant limited distribution in cinemas. I don't think many japanese executives even considered the idea to put their films/TV on western streaming sites. They're kind of conservative with their business models.

The Ring was a big mainstream hit even outside the J-horror circles. It was one of the first horror films I ever watched (scared the bejesus out of me too). I was 8 years old. I didn't even know it was a remake of a foreign film until a couple years ago, and I still haven't seen Ringu. I think this could be a hit, at least a minor one.

It would be cool if someone could reboot it and do a faithful adaptation of the story from the novels, especially the third one when it goes full sci-fi.
