Really feel bad about the Harlock Saga, since that was one of my favorite Matsumoto adaptations, even though it didn't seem to catch on, even with the Matsumoto fans.

That kinda bites....I really liked the Birdy the Mighty series. I was hoping to see more of that story in the future, but this is like the opposite of what I had wanted to happen....

I don't really like Harlock Saga myself, though I have two copies of the DVD. Ah well, when I go to sell them I'll tell the buyer they are "rare, discontinued" items. I might get a toonie...

Back when I knew almost nothing about anime, I randomly rented Birdy the Mighty from my Blockbuster. It seemed really weird to me, but it was also like a crash-course in common anime themes. lol. For those who don't know the plot: Average boring High-school boy merges bodies with a sexy half-naked Galaxy Police officer. He tries to keep being normal, but when bad guys need to be fought, his body changes to sexy-female. Oh, and since they are occupyiong the same body, the two personalities talk to each other. Anime suuure is crazy, huh? rofl

I can't help but laugh. This announcement came, what, two days after I posted a thread pondering how long domestic anime licenses typically had before they were discontinued? Of course, the fact that these are all, for the most part, D-grade titles and/or utterly nonexistant performers in the market getting discontinued and not more high profile ones is certainly reassuring.

You know they could have combined some of those releases like everyone else and get them gone. But again they've been around for awhile. And some I've already seen are now marked below the retail because they're in low supply at certain retailers. Mostly 'TRSI'.

OK, cynics in the crowd, admit it. When you saw the headline, you thought this'd be another "nail-in-the-coffin-of-CPM" story instead of just a fairly run-of-the-mill out-of-print announcement. Didn't you? Didn't you?
I know I did...

NOOOOOOooooooo......!
Not "Legend of the Dragon Kings"!
Seriously, after I read that, I tried to find Birdy the Mighty. You can find vol. 1 easily enough, but vol. 2 seems to be backordered everywhere I looked. I found one copy in Amazon.ca, and it was the last one!

So, any word on whether or not these product discontinuations are at all related to license expirations?
