Ok, Tatum is the script writer. should be amusing to hear a high school swim team talk like they are in a Shakespearean play

I know a lot of fans wanted Travis Willingham to voice Sosuke but instead they get Ian Sinclair who FUNimation has tried really hard to make him Willingham's replacement; casting him in plenty of roles Travis probably would've got instead if he stayed in Dallas.
I feel sorry for Jerry Jewell now that it's revealed he's the ADR Director. All the Vic haters now have a target... Tatum has been very inconsistent with his script work for a while now. He didn't exactly do very well with Attack on Titan (this year) and The Future Diary (last year)... If he goes 0/3 and messes this up too maybe John Burgmeier should stop giving him big titles to write for. I didn't expect Jamie Marchi to get cast as Gou but this alone will make me check out the dub I wasn't all that interested in before. After being being cast in countless harems, ecchi and fanservice shows where she voices a character being lusted after or a potential love interest it's interesting to see her in a reverse harem (sort of)
animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-11-16/free-eternal-summer-english-dub-casts-ian-sinclair-jamie-marchi-more/.81093 *might want to fix that mistake Overall most of the castings seem to be good. Considering this show had a lot of male characters I think it's a huge waste Andrew Love wasn't cast. Been working on some FUNimation dubs for several years now but no ADR Director clever enough to give him a bigger role (not counting Akainu in One Piece). He deserves better than Sentai Filmworks... |

I think the cast is shaping up to fare quite well.
Of course, I think have to may have to get myself settled to Vic's unilateral-sounding voice before I'm comfortable with it. |

So the ADR director casts the actors? Didn't know that. I really hope they don't though. Jerry's a good guy and I'd hate for him to receive hate just because he believed in the person he chose the role for. I didn't even know he was an ADR director. I should look and see what else he's done. |

Perhaps that may explain why the English version of A Certain Scientific Railgun ending up sounding average, at best? |

Voice Acting 101: Actor's don't cast themselves in a role. Which is why if fans ever have a problem with a dub - casting choices, delivery on some parts, hell, even the script since director has final say on that, too - it doesn't make sense to blame the actor. Complain about the director.
But a lot of fans still do not seem to not understand this, sadly, which sometimes leads to a lot of awkward explaining on the voice actor's part during panels.
If I'm not mistaken, didn't he work on Ouran? That's wasn't too bad, from what I recall. Anyway, I personally adore Michael's work and always look forward to his writing in Free! And speaking of Sentai voice actors!!! I don't know maybe it was because I had just finished rewatching Wolf Children and hearing that low registry from the Wolf Man, but, damn, David Matranga would have made a pretty bad ass Sosuke imo? Still, Ian is very talented. I doubt he'll disappoint. Last edited by meggu on Sun Nov 16, 2014 2:36 pm; edited 2 times in total |

So because of one reviewer saying she thinks the scripts are bad, makes it automatically bad for you? Sorry to disappoint? But I thought the scripts for both shows was actually pretty good. |

Tatum also wrote the script for Steins;Gate, which was great. I haven't seen Future Diary, but the Attack on Titan script didn't bother me at all. |

no. I was just pointing Morry in a direction to where he could find an an articulate, well reasoned explanation for the question asked. thought it would be faster |

If anything, I feel the dub will be entertaining for one reason or another, whether it's the charm of Free or just a bad dub. I am hoping, however, that it's as good as Ouran's dub. As they say, expect the worst, hope for the best. At least this means we'll most likely be getting a DVD release, which will almost undoubtedly contain the sub.

Plus there are plenty of people that like Vic and his work too. It'll probably even out.
Yeah, I'd say the chances are pretty good, I think the cast is shaping up to be pretty impressive, so I think the dub will turn out quite entertaining. |
