Translation by Google. (For what it's worth.)

Quote:

Commonplace high school student Sakai 悠 two every day disappeared a certain day suddenly. It crossed from the strange boundary and started, changing “existence” of the person into the light, 喰 and others “also vain ([gu] [ze] of [u] monster crimson world and others)” attacks 悠 two. Those where [mu] he where you forget also that it escapes and stands in blank surprise and is less crowded is rescued were the hair of the crimson lotus and the girl of the puzzle which has the pupil. And that girl of the ── 悠 like this informed to two. “As for you another<Existence>It has not done, is”, that.

The “existence dying/fleeing coming person torch” was, 悠 two and, in him as for the girl who names “[shiyana]”, in order 悠 to watch the treasure tool which in two resides, in remaining in promontory city. And two people confront each other 悠 king “hunter” [huriagune] of the crimson world which lies hidden in prime mover and this town which changed two into the torch ....... With the theater movie, reconstructing the original novel Ⅰ volume which becomes all starting points. 'The story of start of [shiyana] of the 灼 eye' is drawn.

I've known about the movie since March that I clearly remember was a news entry here. While I'm not as into this series as I was when I started (due to the lack of material during the interim and my disappointment with the dub's outcome technically), I'm still looking forward to this.

And while we're talking about more Shana, there's an OVA coming out this December.

Well, I've been looking forward to this since i finished the series from [a fansub group I shouldn't be mentioning] and at the end they said "Shagukan no Shana movie will be subbed soon by [that group]" or something like that

[EDIT: Please do not mention fansub groups. -TK]

I read at another forum that the movie was a retelling of the series, I hope this isn't true.

What exactly did you think was wrong with the dub? It seems very well done to me and I'd previously watched part of the series fansubbed. The characterizations were surprisingly dead on and the script seemed to be very close to what I'd read before.

Are you refering to the way the names of the treasures were translated or something else?

Also, does anyone know how Geneon might handle the OVA, assuming that they license it? (Considering that Shana seems to be selling well, that seems likely.)

Well, it's a pretty stupid reason really. While the dub is probably good based on the review on this site, (I've never actually listened to it yet) I have never been a fan of the Ocean Groups dubbing. Most people can agree that their track record isn't the best and their quality is not always consistent. I was really hoping for a job by Bang Zoom! Entertainment with Melissa Fahn as Shana. I've always have had a bias towards LA recorded dubs since I'm most familiar with their actors. I have been getting better as I watch ADV's and FUNimations's dubs now but I still haven't really gotten over the Ocean Group and NY based studios.

As I said, it's a pretty stupid reason.

Also, I've noticed that the Ocean Group has been getting low profile jobs from Bandai, Geneon, and now Viz so it kind of bothers me that Geneon put this series on their lower end of the ladder.

I'm probably not making any sense at all but this is how I think. And to repeat, I know my reasons are pretty stupid.

I don't think your reason is stupid, although it is a little biased. You prefer the LA based studios over others because you've had some bad experiences with the NY and Canadian based ones, I can understand your having reservations about giving another Ocean dub a try. (Although I think you should if you get a chance to do so for free or if you buy the DVD's to watch the sub, Shana's a good series in any language. Very Happy )

I'm also a little upset that Geneon seems to have had little faith in Shagukan no Shana being a success. They clearly expected Fate/Stay Night to be the bigger of the two, which ultimately may not be the case.

I've noticed a lot of people who loved F/SN when it first came out ended up hating it after the ending.

Bang Zoom! Entertainment has definately turned out some high-quality dubs lately. LA has some of the best English VAs around. (Michelle Ruff is my personal favorite. She has such a wonderful voice in my opinion. Her turn as Cossette in Le Portrait de Petite Cossette is my absolute favorite.)

Still, I think Ocean did a good job with Shana. At least so far.
