Season 2 > season 1. It's still an anthology show, but it's been more consistently high quality episode to episode this season.

Agreed, and thought I was alone in this opinion!

It seems to be more high-concept this season, like they have a more specific genre/trope/whatever they're going for and parodying each week, and that makes the episodes funnier and more resonant. This week's was kind of a dud, though. But last week's episode was sublime.

This is the series where I'm most excited about episode-by-episode reviews (well, other than the ones I'm writing for BB, of course) because this is really a series where you have to review each episode as its own thing.

The only episode I didn't like of Space Dandy was the one where they were fishing for the big fish, which I found to be very boring. Aside from that, I've enjoyed every single one thus far.

Exactly, I consider the second season to be straight out masterpiece. Even the episodes that don't completely work have something interesting going for them.

I'm in the Season 2 is better than Season 1, or at least far more interesting. Even the weaker episodes (I think all of the Keiko Nobumoto episodes have been kind of disappointing, but I'll admit to really digging this week's episode in spite of having no real point) has some neat stuff in them. A weak episode of Dandy is still a lot more interesting than most other anime out there, because it'll always look stellar and try to do something that most other anime don't try.

Favorite episodes for me this season are definitely the alternate dimension Dandies, the Yuasa episode (I'm a sucker for Yuasa in general and he did not disappoint) and The World With No Sadness for being the first "serious" Dandy episode I liked.

I saw the entire first season and enjoyed at least half of the episodes. I found that one with the zombies and parodying Romero's movies to be the highlight. Nevertheless, it had more like the space race one or why not, even that one with the robot who falls in love with the cofee machine. Therefore, I came into the 2nd season with the expectation of it being at least as decent as the first.

I only saw three episodes of the second season (one of them rated very highly on this site) and I currently have no desire to watch more since it featured;

*random and almost incoherent plots
*not a single interesting statement/parody/whatever about anything at all.
*quite unfunny (when it actually tries to be) or failing in the dramatic moments (when it attempts to be serious).

It reminded me of one of the worst episodes of the first season, with the plants; a stupid plot point about shirts and underwear that was repeated unmercifully; wonky character designs and so on.

I can't think of this series as one featuring a consistent level of quality since its standalone story-telling nature and the fact that different teams work on each episode make this inherently unlikely. But I do hope it got better from the point I dropped it.

Space Dandy is one of those shows, that make me giddy every week. It makes the wait for the next one hard I'm so giddy.

Because, as odd as it sounds, it's rare to see a show that simply wants to be as fun as Space Dandy does and is.

God I love this show.

Episode 8 was one of the finest episodes of any anime series you'll see all year. Both visually and aurally it was superb. A real triumph of creative thought.

Thank FUNi and Adult Swim. Or did they not bankroll it? Either way, Dandy's not done well in Japan just like Champloo, which only adds to the stigma against taking severe risks.

I do enjoy watching Dandy, but I've never felt over the moon for it. It's humorous, but I've never fallen out of my chair with aching sides.

I had the complete opposite opinion. After a hilarious season premiere, Dandy falls apart so badly it might as well be directed by Tim and Eric. It's not funny, it's not fun, it's artists just showing whatever they want on screen, and Dandy himself could be replaced with anyone.

Although I am not a fan of either season as a whole (to the point that I usually only half-heartedly watch the series when I watch it at all), I do agree with this statement. Episode 8 mightily impressed me in a way that no other episode of the franchise has. I can think of only one or two episodes of any other series I've seen this year that I would put on the same level.

But that's both the blessing and the curse of a series which strives to be so visually and thematically creative, isn't it? When it hits, it hits big. When it misses, it misses big.

Space Dandy is the type of ambitious that used to be made more in the heydays of OAVs.

i agree with this. Not sure about the "massive creativity, great writing..." Most People think this is just a fun show, not about the story. It has no story, it's like of kind, it just does what it wants to do. Same of similar many anime in this aspect. They do what they want to do. You don't need to follow any rule and bad Science Fiction
