y'know, it always made me tilt my head as to what was the point of establishing Hancock's haki abilities as well as the fact that her ENTIRE TRIBE had them if ultimately Rayleigh was the one who did the training. It just makes me look back at that entire arc of the series and realize that Oda was REALLY pulling stuff out of nowhere or not thinking things through. Definitely some of his worst.

The way I see it, the "point" of showing off the Haki abilities of the Kuja was to expose Luffy to a side of fighting he wasn't really aware of (or didn't fully understand) and that he needed to learn it in order to face the challenges ahead in the New World. I don't think there was any error in judgement to have Reyleigh teach Luffy instead of the Kuja.
