Doesn't that usually happen when they announce fighting games in Japan? Start in arcades, and then put it into consoles? I'd imagine it'll be on the Wii U months after it debuts in the arcade.

Pretty much every japanese fighting game gets an arcade release first and a console release later so this is nothing new. The game's already trademarked for the US and Europe so we're getting it in some capacity outside of Japan.
Glad to see the game actually exists though. I'd almost given up hope when it didn't surface at E3

And Game Freak continues to prove that there are more things to be done with Pokémon than an MMORPG. Well-done, you guys. Here's hoping Pokken turns out for the best!
(Psst: just a hint, get Daisuke Ishiwatari in on your music. Or have him voice the Blaziken. Just sayin'.)

Japan now uses arcades like a QA. They have people play it and find bugs/balance issues. Then they tweak it and perfect it for console release. That's what Harada stated during his interview during his Tekken panel at Comic-Con.
But can't wait for this. Already voting this game for EVO.

I can see this getting a WiiU/3DS port if it turns out to be popular, well something like this would be popular with both boys and grown folks who are competitive in the FGC if done right.

I doubt Game Freak has anything to do with this. Game Freak only handles those mainline Pokemon RPGs on the handheld systems. Every other game from the spin-off RPGs (Mystery Dungeon and Conquest games) to the puzzles to the stadiums and coliseums are developed by other studios entirely. Since this is a partnership with Bandai Namco, I'm assuming the Tekken/Soul Calibur teams are involved with this game.

The guy who came onto the show was the one who worked on the Tekken games, so this will be expected. =3

Yeah, pretty much this. Most arcades these days are joint bar/arcade or restaurant/arcade venues.
