AOT is definitely in no way whatsoever an anime to "relax" to! Ha. One Piece would get the more feel-good/enjoyable kind of anime than AOT. Even Fairy Tail would be more enjoyable to lay down and just watch.

Ghost in the Shell, Madoka, nor Attack on Titan are not anything I can call relaxing.

Glad to see Natsume's Book of Friends there. When you've had a hard week and just want to watch something gently uplifting and touching, then watching Natsume, Nyanko-sensei and the others is just what is needed.

Yeah, Natsume Yuujinchou was the first show that came to my mind. Perfect for a lazy day, with a gentle breeze coming through the window and the sound of birds in the air. So fitting.
I was very pleasantly surprised to see Toshokan Sensou (Library Wars) show up on both genders' lists. I thought that show was great and always felt it didn't get the attention it deserved.
If I had to guess I'd say that however the survey was conducted, it seemed to attract a more mature group of fans, judging by the results.

Based on my own experience, I'd recommend Mushishi and Bartender.

I had to look up what Toshokan Sensō was. I was more familiar with the English title: Library War.
It there some ANN guideline that suggests that titles that haven't been licensed in the US be referred to by their Japanese titles, and those that have by their English titles?

That's a lot of heavy stuff for a relaxing day off. My go-to anime have always been Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon.

I noticed that it's an almost-identical mix of shows on both lists, and some really obvious candidates (no Gintama on the women's list? DONDAKE~!) are missing, leading me to believe this was some kind of multiple-choice gimmick. Not that internet fan polls are known for their scientific accuracy, but that pretty much eliminates all of it right there.

This show is on my top ten most wished for licenses. Kind of surprised it has never gotten one.

Totally!!
I thought no-one else even knew it existed, I watched it nearly 2 years ago now and until today had never heard another person speak of it.

No Aria the Animation/Natural/Origination on either list? Very disappointing, Japan. That franchise is relaxing as [expletive].
The ANN article doesn't say, but I'm going to assume Japanese fans were surveyed, since the source is Livedoor.

in my experience POLAR BEAR CAFE is the best show, anime or otherwise, for hungover mornings.

I really like Library Wars as well. Not sure I'd necessarily call it "relaxing" though. FYI, for folk that don't know. Viz are publishing the manga in English. There's 11 volumes out so far.
My favourite anime to relax with are Natsume's Book of Friends. I have a few favourite episodes that I always keep coming back to. My favourite one is the snow kitty one.
Bunny Drop is another adorable relaxing show. This coming from someone who hates children IRL.
I also find the first season of Kimi ni Todoke very relaxing and cute (the second season is a little too maddeningly slow). I always rewatch the Christmas episode every Christmas.
I am also surprised that Aria wasn't on the list. Guess it's too old and not that popular.
Looking at the full lists, there are a lot on there I wouldn't say are relaxing. Kill La Kill is anything but, IMO. Too hyper and bouncy.
