Crazy......... Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy the tickets from scalpers? Or is there some kind of extra benefit that comes with the tix from Calbee?

Idol Otaku are some of the silliest folks I've ever come across. All those chips wasted could've fed orphans. I don't think arresting him was a good idea though, a fine would've been better.

I can see this as a weight loss ad: "To lose weight, ditch the potato chips and get Nana Mizuki concert tickets."*
*Disclaimer: We do not endorse the littering of 1/4 ton of potato chips on Japanese streets.
A Kotaku article on this story has a comment with a YouTube link to that Death Note potato chip line.

Was thinking about that too... then again the guy probably is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

And even if not, he could have made a great publicity stunt of giving them away?

Being arrested for dumping potato chips would be a hilarious story to tell his children... if he were to ever have them.
In all seriousness, what a waste of food.

No kidding. That is way too much food to just throw out like that.
Of course, I have to question the judgment of someone who would buy that much food just for some concert tickets to begin with.

Is it weird that I would be excited to stumble upon that many potato chips? I would use it all some how. I would probably just be giving everyone I know potato chips.

Meh. This is japan, where they invented cup ramen: oil and starch, carbohydrates, are in wide supply and pretty low-cost. Malnutrition isn't a non-problem, but it's all about minerals and vitimins and micro-neutrients and so-forth: noone is poor enough that they can't afford what chips give you.
Same everywhere outside actual famine zones, tbh, and for those ease-of-transport and keeping-power are important: I understand they tend to use rice.
[perhaps in a hibachi? they should burn decently, I think...]

I cannot tell a lie, Officer Obie sir, I put that letter underneath the half-a-ton of potato chips.
[And they all moved away on the group W bench]

After reading this news now I am carving for some potato chips.
Chips are not something we can call healthy food, but throwing them away like that is just... so sad.
Can't he just give them away? For party or whatever?
I guess there must be a law about wasting good food. I saw a documentary of my country - where there is a huge gap between the rich and the poor - about food waste. Apparently the homeless are digging for food (which in they case is "still edible") in trash bins from fast food restaurants. If they're "lucky" they might find some meaty fried chicken or fermented pizza....
