So that's why I'm reminded of freezing when watching the second OP of Kill la Kill.

You don't know how OPs & EDs work nowadays or understand why they often change every 13 episodes? The reason of the change is 1.) to bring in possible new viewers along with original viewers, and 2.) to promote the artist/band that are employed or partnered under their company. If they were to retain the OP and/or ED, then the revenue of that show would either remain the same or decrease. Changing the songs on the second half of the broadcast, where things are most likely picking up in the anime, would also increase sales.

^uh, it's quite normal for anime to start a with a new OP & ED at the beginning of a new season or mid-season. They're not "taking out" anyone.
I had a bit of a J-Pop binge (mostly because I was trying to figure out how to *legally* acquire more J-Pop for my Mp3 player. The Japanese versions of Amazon and Itunes have the largest selection (obviously) and...I have no clue how to purchase from them) and while listening to a Youtube countdown, Rei Yasuda's song Brand New Day really stuck out to me. She has a beautiful voice.
