Y'know what would've been an awesome celebration of Gundam's 35th anniversary? An Origin tv series. But noooooo, they're gonna make episodic movies covering select segments instead. I blame Yoshiyuki Tomino. Although, in all fairness, the cereal I ate this morning was a little less fresh than I wanted it and I blamed Yoshiyuki Tomino for that too.

Happy 35 Gundam. I hope you stick around for another 35+ years. I got nearly all Gundam series, movies, and OVAs on DVD and Blu-ray.

Why would we need an Origin TV show? We already have the original Gundam TV series and movies.

Anyways, happy birthday to Gundam.

Because it's a 35 year-old anime. I love the original series, I really do, but it looks awful with tons of off-model drawings and recycled animation. I'd love to see a re-telling of it as a modern anime.

Happy Birthday and thanks for all the memories, I wouldn't still be an import gamer today without Gundam.

The original 1979 anime series was one of the most ground breaking and influential anime shows of all time, it inspired a new genre of realistic, mature, story driven mecha shows, it showed that mecha shows can be more than just campy monster of the week shows for kids.

Irrelevant; as long as the story hold up, why should production values matter? Besides, the OYW era is already saturated with events that are far more deserving of animation, rather than reanimating the same story over and over and over again.

Beside, they did try to modernize it; it was called Gundam Seed Cool

35 years and still going strong and true. Wish I could say the same for the Western fandom.

Yes, but as more Gundam series got more exposure through dubs and the internet, SEED lost its popularity with time because of unfair comparisons between each series by Gundam's bitchy fanbase.

Because it's a show about giant robots and I'd rather the giant robots not look terrible?

Gundam's fanbase is indeed extremely bitchy, but in its defense, Gundam Seed is terrible. By "unfair comparisons" are you referencing the horrible characters, awful plot, hideous Hisashi Hirai character designs, crappy animation or rehashed ideas?

...but the music was good (including composers Yuki Kajiura and Toshihiko Sahashi), with at least 2 songs that have remained popular:

Anna ni Issho datta no ni (あんなに一緒だったのに) / See-Saw (Mobile Suit Gundam SEED ED)

Akatsuki no Kuruma / FictionJunction (Gundam Seed IN)
