Meh, looks like another B movie. Might watch to see if Samuel says something funny again.

Dizzee: In the movie's defense, the source material was pretty low-rent, too. Though I guess Kite: Liberator now has competition for worst follow-up to Kite.

There was a graphic novel for Kite? That's news to me.
I still feel like a broken record, but blatantly saying it's based on an anime; not a Korean film, not a manga, not a book; feels really novel to me. Too bad the film's trailer looks ugly and lacks style aside from "generic edgy January-March dump movie". The acting is also kind of shitty; I'd rather just see Umetsu given the budget to make more action hentai. |

I don't think Kite does have a manga. Apparently Mezzo does, though. That's close enough, right?
Speaking of, the girl looks a lot more like Mikura with that hot pink hair than she does Sawa. |

It's also news to me that, according to Jackson at around 0:20, that there was a graphic novel, unless he somehow knows something that I don't know (and neither does the ANN Encyclopedia, apparently).
Speaking of the trailer, I'm impressed as well by the fact that it explicitly says it says it was adapted from an anime. It also seems more faithful than I thought it would be. As much as I found the original KITE (the edited cut, the only one I've seen) just alright and interesting enough for the 90s action OVA that it was, it definitely had its share of memorable scenes-- and already the trailer and clips showed us replications of/homages to the original's elevator shooting and bathroom brawl. Surely they'll stick to the idea of Sawa's "partner" being spoiler[her parents' murderer]? That said: The acting isn't particularly impressive, it looks a bit cheap in some respects... and I don't consider the source material superbly strong anyway... so it might not rise above the level of being a B-movie. Hope it'll be entertaining, at the very least. |

Don't really know what to think of this. The acting is kinda poopy, but it still looks like it could be entertaining. I'm not the biggest fan of the original anyways, I prefer Mezzo.

Looks interesting enough to me, though I think it is a wee bit early to be commenting on the acting, since there wasn't that much acting to be seen yet.

Like I said in another thread, it's possible SLJ was thinking of an artbook or production art for Kite. Or maybe he's done so many comic book movies that it's all a blur to him at this point. Anyway, this is like only slightly higher quality than DB: Evolution. Though I'd still take that Blood: The Last Vampire movie over both of 'em.
