Not surprised at all to see One Piece in the lead, with Dragon Ball behind it, but I am kind of surprised by the huge gap even between the two of them. Then again, One Piece is already much longer than Dragon Ball, so that's part of it probably.
Then again, Kochikame is INSANELY long too and it's only slightly lower than Dragon Ball...so you really can't rationalize it into just more volumes sold due to length of series being longer. Though Kochikame matching Dragon Ball in sales really makes me wish I could check it out. Also, woot to Kenshin for being on the list. |

Kinda funny that when I was little I watched and read most of these shows but now I dont care for any of them never mind keeping up or watching them xD (some I despise coughnarutocough)

Kochikame is kind of like SJ's staple, long-running comedy series- it's been in there for over 30 years now. I'm not surprised it sold pretty well (It's over 180 volumes long, so...), but I'm not surprised that it didn't sell more compared to some of the series on that list. It's a silly, funny series. |

I'm a bit disappointed that Fist of the North Star isn't on the list but oh well, most of these deserve their spots, nothing can beat the oldies.

Interesting.. This article is more or less kinda like this one from 2007
http://comipress.com/article/2007/05/06/1923 But Captain Tsubasa, Hokuto No Ken and Kinnikuman aren't included, maybe they have been surpassed, maybe the article from 2007 counted sequels (?).. Or maybe Shueisha just didn't want to include titles they don't own anymore (Hokuto No Ken is now published by Shogakukan -kanzenbans-, while Kinnikuman is published by Shueisha but its creator owned by Yudetamago) Anyway being the JUMP freak I am I am gonna comment number by number. Also I am gonna make the how much $$$ they have won per series (Assuming this is only tankoubon, which I highly doubt, Shueisha probably compilled other products like bunkoban, kanzenban, souushuhens, etc) BTW if you don't believe me the formula is (Total volumes sold)(440)/10 (Royalty fees)=$$$ (In yen) Then I just divide it by 100 in order to get the ammount in dollars, though this is incorrect since the dollar to yen isn't 1:100 anymore.. From what I have read some authors get more royaltie fees, i.e. I'd imagine every manga still on print from this list gets a little more royalty fees.. But I am assuming 10%. Yu Yu Hakusho Its like.. One of the most generic shonens I have ever read yet Togashi makes it an incredible read. Its interesting since well.. Generic AND short -19 volumes- and still got to be a BIG name. Also Togashi, the man ended it like he wanted -though not the best ending-. Total volumes: 49,260,000 Average: 2,592, 631 per volume $$$: 2,167,440,000 Yen/100= 21,674,400 USD More to come |

Rurouni Kenshin:
You gotta give props to this one, by looking at the numbers you look and say .. Well it was a good seller.. Well this is right BUT, Rurouni Kenshin was a great seller in one of JUMP's darkest moments Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball and SLAM DUNK ended in 1994, 1995 and 1996 respectively (IIRC) and Ruroken was the responsible to be JUMP's pillar of support (Tenipuri fans might get the reference haha). Heck it was so successful that Kodansha quickly tried to make a manga about samurai for its magazine (Shonen Magazine) and did so in the form of Samurai Deeper Kyo. Total volumes: 55,060,000 Av: 1,966,428 $$: 2,422,640,000 yen/100=$24,226,400 USD HUNTER X HUNTER Not much to say here.. Great manga, Togashi props to you by being the only mangaka with 2 mangas on the list. You know how to do manga with popular appeal. BTW I am taking 29 volumes into account since volume 30 was released in april 2012. Glad to see Bleach in such a good position. I'm also surprised Saint Seiya isn't on the list, I always thought it was insanely popular. Maybe it's more for the anime than the manga?

Just a precision : those are probably circulation numbers, not sales numbers. The overall difference can be explained by the difference between the amount of manga volumes sold and the amount of manga volumes printed. The print numbers can be found here http://www.manga-news.com/index.php/actus/2012/04/07/Top-15-des-3-Gros-Editeurs-2011-2012 and as you'll see all numbers are superior to the ones delivered by the oricon rankings.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure:
This is.. Ok.. Hard to classify? I mean I know Jojo has lots of sagas, I have read some of them, got some tankoubon even, and have played the PS game, looking forward for the PS3 game, watching the anime.. I know JOJO, not a lot, but enough to know its a LONG manga... BUT looking at wikipedia Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a 63 volume manga, continued in Stone Ocean which is 17 volumes long, then Steel Ball Run 24 volumes and Jojolion which is 3 volumes long.. As far as I am concerned Shueisha likely considers JJBA everything, counting Stone Ocean and SBR and Jojolion.. Anyway, as far as I am concerned Shueisha is counting 104 volumes.. Total volumes: 63,240,000 Average: 608,076 $$: 2,782,560,000/100= 27,825,600 USD As you guys can see Jojo is not as best-seller as the other titles, but well its a 100 volume manga! I mean you gotta give props to Hirohiko Araki for mainting such a long devoted fan-base for such a long period of time.. If I were to take a guess volumes from past parts should have sold way better, maybe part 3 even had million sellers, who knows. BLEACH: BLEACH.. O Bleach.. Well it has been ranking poorly and seller lower than longer than I can remember, I mean is nowhere close to being cancelled but it has been selling poorlier than ever before.. Total: 78,650,000 Av: 1,483, 962 $$: 3,460,600,000/100=$34,606,000 USD SLAM DUNK And this is were I realised Shueisha must have taken Kanzenban (and other compilations) sales into account.. I can't believe SLAM DUNK has sold almost 4,000,000 per volume.. Wow.. (BTW the ammount ONE PIECE volumes have suppoesdly sold is too much too.. -.-) Total: 118,970,000 Av: 3,837,741 $$: 5,234,680,000/100=$52,346,800 USD |

Saint Seiya is still occasionally reissued by Shueisha, and it even got a "definitive edition" with color pages six years ago. The original edition sold around 25 million copies, which is pretty good for a 28-volume series, but not enough to make it one of Jump's 25 best sellers of all time. |
