Hi my name is Cally. I'm from califoina and this is my first post!

Now, I'm gonna talk to you guys about One Piece. I wish to hear lots of answers and opinions about this show, because this is my favourite show. I have seen episodes up to 275 and I'm looking forward for many eps to come.

Why isn't One Piece popular outside Asia and I don't find people liking this show?

The ratings of ANN for One Piece is ranked 400+.. I was really suprised and bothered the fact that One Piece was really crap and not many fans like it? Is it because people have already seen the 4kids version?

My friend who now studies in Uni who was the one strongly recommended me to watch this show and he doesn't even like anime, so I gave it a try. I'm gonna compare this show to Naruto since I've watched both of them up-to-date. I liked One Piece better because it's easy to watch, the jokes are really funny and laughable, the characters are unique and you can never call them boring. My uni friend, said One Piece was popular than Naruto in Asian Countries and Naruto was popular outside Asian Countries. Is it because of 4kids?

The original show are basically for teenagers.
I dont like 4 kids. Here are the reasons.
The show are mainly for kids. They edit the music. They edit the story. They cut a lot of scenes, violent scenes and cut out a lot of episodes. They chose voice actors who didn't fit perfectly with the characters. Simple, 4kids made it their on show and I hate them for that!

I just want everyone here who just read this thread just to give their opinions or anwsers. Doesn't matter if your not a One Piece fan. You can discuss about One Piece the show, and I love to hear what people liked about the show who watched the eps up to date.

Thanks!

Anyways.

I do advise that you NEVER release your age on the internet. You should edit that post.

That aside, about 99.23% of One Piece fans hate the english version. Especially the 4kids version. Anyway, usually I watch the Japanese with the subs. The only problem is that it is hard for people to have a serious discussion on this anime.

Done.

As for One Piece, I've always been curious about checking it out, but 275+ episodes and over half a dozen movies is a lot to watch. Is there really that much story material or is a lot of it filler?

I generally can't stand shounen filler like in InuYasha, Naruto, or Kenshin, but I'm catching up on Bleach right now and am really enjoying it.

EDIT: Fixed a word.

I can only remember one filler arc which was 7-9 episodes long. Besides that its all story driven * well as story driven as a long adventure series can get*

I agree. One Piece was a good T-rated show until 4kids showed up and made it kiddy. And I don't like 4kids either, because they know how to make our lives into ****. They do this by slaughtering a good cartoon with a bloody machete and then leave all of it's severed organs on the ground. But I think those dubbed voices were okay.

But what about that How Old Are You thread on the Manga general forums?

Anyways, I think the show is great. As much as I love Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and other titles by Shonen Jump. In fact, I love Shonen Jump so much that I wanna import Battle Stadium D.O.N.

From what I know there isn't that much of filler (I'm at 205 and I've seen 2 arcs and 2 bunches of random fillers) and a lot of the filler is quite enjoyable. Some arcs, especially the one where I'm now (G8 arc) have imo the same quality as the series on the subject of being fun to watch, and the stories aren't bad either. It certainly is nothing like Naruto for the most part, a lot of fillers from that series were so horrible that I just skipped them all after watching some of them.

One Piece is also definitely my favourite shonen (well, maybe it's tied with Yakitate) and better than Naruto imo, especially since the main characters are more likeable, the comedy is a lot better and the fact that I like pirates better than ninja's Razz.

And I really hope the 4Kids version will never air here, especially since it will be even worse than the American version.

Definitely take the time to enjoy One Piece. It does take a little while to take off, but once you're pulled into it, it'll be a payoff as a great shonen series. The interesting thing is that there isn't much filler at all. There are four filler arcs, and the longest is 13 episodes (the others are about 7-10). There are some slapped into actual story arcs, so that can be a pain (especially the Alabasta desert stretch...), but they aren't very significant.

The only real problem with the One Piece anime is that it really tends to make the most of its adaptation, so things are a bit longer than they could've been otherwise (I won't say it drags, because it doesn't), but it's done well enough so that there's always something happening at least.

The 4Kids version IS the American version.

While I can definitely see the 4Kids version being a lot of the reason (a couple of my friends said they couldn't figure out how I could like a show like 4Kids One Piece), I don't think it's much of that at all. I had a friend who gave it an honest chance, and he just couldn't get into it. He'll stand up for it against the 4Kids version if it arises, but he doesn't think much of the original either.

I think the series is just really Japanese. The flow, the style, the execution, it's really not typical to successful anime in America. I do think the series would hold more of a fanbase if the English dub were done better, but even still, it would never be as big as Naruto, Kenshin, or Bleach, it's just not that kind of series.

If Naruto is Dragon Ball Z, then One Piece is Dragon Ball, and we all know which is more popular here.

As more and more Americans realize how bad the shows on 4kids are, the lower their ratings drop. I just wish they didn't spend over 40 episodes against Crocodile. On Toonami, what episode are they up to? I know they just took a couple of steps back for a short break.

True enough and regardless that 4kidz killed it, One piece was already overlooked being too childish. This anime has all the qualities that would want me to hate an anime and personally though i don't like naruto i think it is better constructed than one piece. The story is nowhere being perfect because of how predictable and repetitive it is, However somewhere on the line i really love the characters and surprisingly enough i really am enjoying it. One thing that does irritate me it's how powerful they make the characters. Luffy is only said to have eaten a fruit that is suppose to make him a rubber-person and yet that power exceeds the limit of any logicness. His power in some measure could compare to Goku from Dbz without the spirit energy to blow out stuff. Zorro is a whole other story, his swords aren't the only thing that can cut through steels and apparently his body does too. That could be particularly the reason why i like Ussop better because his limit is just natural and he is just the underdog.

I actually never get to see the beginning of this anime and i've only watched it from the Alabasta arc. I'd advise anyone to do so because it is really annoying and also that certain part really shows how childish this anime is and i'd say childish as YU-GI-oh.

The Japanese version of One Piece is the best anime out there, and the manga is even better. Other series have better animation or more clever plots, but nothing beats the raw strength of One Piece.

As for "filler content", of the existing 275 episodes, probably less than 40 of them are non-manga filler eps, and most are decent enough (better than Naruto, not as good as Bleach). The series is a bit stretched out in places though, dragging on a scene unnecessarilly.

One Piece was and is still a great show. The problem is that a great evil called 4kids came along and snatched it away to victimize it and make it exactly what it is.....for kids! In fact they made it too kiddy, so if you have seen the Japanese uncut version or if you're a fan of the series, then you would know that 4kids' version of the show is a bunch of crap. Check out my ratings: I rated the Japanese raw Very Good, and I rated the 4kids "English" dub Worst Ever Twisted Evil

it really isn't made for teens as much as you think. i think this was disscussed in another thread, but shonen is written with the charcters for "Few" and "Years". in other words, young boys (boys as in that shonen means boy). i guess kids here in america are seen as immature things that need to be prtected from all ciew of blood, guns, and violence. if that is true, then 4Kids did their job.

I frequent the forums of the group that subs one piece and I said this there as well.

Honestly, what's the point of complaining about what 4kids did to One Piece. Sure some of the typical responses in these forums include instructions to snail mail them or boycott their product, but I ask you this.

Wouldn't you boycott it either way? How many of you actually intend to dish over an amount of money that an R1 company requires to sell such a LONG series which is likely to be well over 400 episodes the way it's going.

So why complain if you wouldn't even buy the product if it were amazingly made...like its fansub counterpart.

Of course, I realize now, that i'll get different responses on this forum as i've noticed that there are many many people that are against fansubs in general and i doubt you'd find that on a fansub group's forum.

At this point, no. Not with 4kids having done what they did. I'll maybe get the uncut Japanese R2 versions, but not R1s.

The 4Kids version IS the American version.

I know, I meant that the Dutch dub will be even worse, sorry for not being clear.
