Well this certainly gives another valid reason why he's retired. As passionate as he is about animation, he isn't getting any younger. I do hope he recovers.

Poor guy really overdid it on his last movie, huh? I hope it's nothing major.

Stubborn old coot that he is, he has probably been ignoring the problem for quite a while.
Let the Doctors do what needs doing, do what they say do and get well. There are still things for you to do.

Well, it wouldn't be cool to bury him, before his time is up.

Well, he's also 72 years old, doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how hard he worked on his last movie. Bottom line is he's just getting old at this point and the body starts to get plauged by things like this as you age.

I don't know, he has done his part. He's getting old and not getting any younger. I think he deserves to have his retirement as he has already done far more for the industry than anyone could have asked of him. As much as we would all love for Miyazaki's films to continue indefinitely, it would sadly be selfish of us to ask and expect him to continue until the day he passes on.

At the very least, he probably thought it'd be business as usual. And he does correct and draw a lot of his own art on these gigs.

If it's not too bad, he can still do tours and lectures.

Being in the medical field it makes sense. He has smoked for many years. He's lucky that's the only medical condition he has.
