Really, the show is that good. Yes, it airs on Jetix on Toon Disney, but it's not like other shows. It is an ambitious, epic series which has a very dramatic story, an orchestrated soundtrack (by "Taru Iwasaku"; I think that's his name), and OP and ED songs by Yoko Kanno. It's the story of a girl who escapes from her school reunites with her father, but gets a cold reception since he doesn't even recognize his own daugter, then she finds herself participating in "The Great Race of Oban", an intergalactic racing competition for the fate of the universe (and something called "the ultimate prize"). However, it's more than that. The characters have realistic personalites and develop throughout the series.
Unfortunately for some of you, this show doesn't have swearing, nudity, "vices", graphic violence, or gratuitious female underwear shots (this is Jetix/Disney we're talking about after all, plus I'm assuming that the creator didn't want those things in it anyway). However, the show doesn't need them. I think it can appeal to anime fans without those things.
Furthermore, the U.S. broadcast replaces the OP, but not only was the ED restored for both future episodes AND future rebroadcasts of previous episodes, but the ED also has (no joke) Japanese lyrics. Really, it does; I've seen it myself. However, I personally would like to see them bring back the original OP as well.
So, anybody?
PS: This show is the creation of "Savin Yeatman-Eiffel", whose great-great grandfather originally designed Paris' famous "Eiffel Tower". It took a total of 9 years to develop from concept to reality.
PPS: This show was animated by Hal Film Maker, and can be considered anime since it has a similar style.
PPPS: Yes, the characters don't have noses, but that shouldn't detract from the overall experience (IMO).

Acually, UK Jetix is horrible. I don't like the UK version of that company anymore because they have done way too much editting on a wonderful show called Naruto. They sliced it and diced it and took all the best parts and turned a good show into a kiddy show. So I only like the US version of Jetix better. Because they didn't show Naruto. Only CN did.

Bah, I think Oban Star is superior to IGPX. The story isn't just about racing, it has more layers and I'm very interested to find out exactly why the fate of the Earth is riding on the outcome of the race.

I've seen part of Oban-Star racers, and it was pretty good. I haven't watched that much of Naruto, is it a good show?? Another good anime, or I'm pretty sure it's a bit Anime, is Avatar: The Last Airbender. I love that show, although I haven't been following it from the beginning. Actually all my anime shows are cut out right now, because our satellite stopped working. Arrgh- technology sometimes fails me. Sob, sob. oh well, I'll deal. I think I'll watch Naruto again, and see if I like it.

I like most anime anyhow. Except most of Jetix is kind of, well not good. The Toonami Jetstream on Cartoon network is a lot better, though. Has anyone ever watched Xialin (sp?) Showdown? It's not bad.

Can we please stay on topic? We're talking about Oban Star-Racers, and nothing else.
Not Naruto
Not Toonami
Not Jetix itself
JUST Oban Star-Racers.
(sigh) I think I only got a couple of actual intelligent (or partially intelligent responses (from Conundrum and Chihiro-Sen). You know nobody's forcing you to post. If you haven't seen or don't watch the show, then you didn't have to post anything.
Look, I'm going to ask you one more time. Do any of you watch the show at all? If you don't then you should watch at least one episode. Trust m, I really think you'll like this one.

OK. But it's just that I just watch Jetix on ABC Family. I can't believe Jetix is gonna leave ABC Family. I guess we're all going to HFIL (Home For Infinate Losers).

when i bought the Newtype Usa issue that had a little section on this anime I had one look at the characters had immediatly turned the page.
I absolutley hate how the characters look
Their whole appereaence is disgusting
there is no way I could sit down on my couch and watch an anime with disgusting looking characters.
THat is my personal oppinion
For me; one thing that gets me stuck into any kind of anime is how the characters look, they have to have the big eyes that i love so much and not look to stupid
that anime has one the worst charcter designs in history
Its probably because it was made by a french animating company
I know u should not judge a book by its cover
but I cant stand ugly character designs
one of the charcaters on that anime look so wrong to me and my girl friend who is also into anime,
and she pointed to the little squid thing guy and said that is what all amime fan girls are afraid of when walking home alone at night and i dont blame her just looking at that thing got me concerned for anime fan girls all around the world
I would never watch unless i was bribed for hundreds of dollars in cash

It's the lack of noses, isn't it?
Seriously, your statement contradicts itself. You say you know that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, yet you say you don't like the show, and/or won't watch it because you have an extreme dislike for the character designs.
That's a pretty shallow reason for not watching this show (or any show, for that matter), isn't it?
BTW, this show isn't completely French. Remember, the French team went to Hal Film Maker (Pretear, Princess Tutu) and woked with them to create the style you see. Savin Yeatman-Eiffel (the creator, producer, writer, and [co-] director) put a lot of effort and work into this show, and I personally think you should give the show another look. This show is "French-Japanese".
Another thing, not all anime has big-eyed characters. You DID know that, right?
Again, I personally think you should give the show another chance. If you won't, that's your business (you don't have to), but at least consider my suggestion.

On the contrary, Taku Iwasaki's OST is still kept in the series. But yea, it's a shame that the OP song Yoko Kanno composed had to be changed. The song itself was pretty neat since it mixes Japanese and French lyrics, and it doesn't sound haphazard.

All in all it’s a pretty entertaining show. I doubt I would ever buy it if it was ever released, but I record any new episodes on DVR. The best aspects of the show, in my opinion, is all the different alien and alien ship designs. It’s a lot more interesting that way because that way each episode you generally see something new and kind of different (I still really think Aika using a giant beetle to race is pretty cool and somewhat unique). Sometimes Molly can be a little too angsty which gets on my nerves a little bit.

Correct. The main soundtrack is still there, but the original OP was replaced. The ED was also replaced at first, but later episodes as well as future rebroadcasts of previous episodes now use the original ED, AND with JAPANESE lyrics no less. This is the first time ever in the history of:
Jetix
ABC Family
Fox Family
Fox Kids
and
Saban
...that there has been a show with Japanese lyrics (even if it was just the ED).
So, v1cious, now that you've been set straight, perhaps you'll give this series another chance?
Incidentally, I mentioned all those company names because Jetix is connected to them (even though Friday Sept. 1st is going to be the last day of Jetix on ABC Family). You see, Fox/ABC Family's animation block originally didn't have a specialized name, and Jetix is actually a continuation of the institution (for lack of a better word) that started on Fox Kids.

Can you blame her? Since her own father doesn't even know that she's his daughter Eva, she feels all alone with no one to turn to for guidance (except Rick perhaps).
