gonna make this easier than I did last time, first off my lists on this site:
my seen all (if I put it on there, I enjoyed it; I omit stuff I don't like from my listing, finished it or not): animenewsnetwork.com/MyAnime/?categ=3&user=Hisdon Note on that list: If a series isn't finished yet, but I'm up to date with the latest episode, I count it as seen all, just for clarification. Seen Some: Mushishi, currently on some of the earlier episodes My stuff in queue to watch: animenewsnetwork.com/MyAnime/?categ=1&user=Hisdon Not too convinced I'll like Flame of Recca or Berserk though, then again I said that about Escaflowne I like symbolism and cryptic things that make you think, but i also love a good ass kickin' series. Comedy is okay long as it isn't slapstickish, and love storeis are fine as well. Things I've heard about but not sure: Monster, wondering what this is similar to that I've seen, seems really complex Azumanga Diaoh, this looks really slapstickish and I don't think I'd find it very entertaining, but I can't be positive :S Excel Saga, heard this is a lot of parodies, spoofs and satire, sounds fun. |

I think Mushishi would fit the symbolism category for now. I cant really recommend anything of higher quality at the moment. you've got a few of those under your belt already.
Ass kicking series, would you mean by charaters, or just by the scenes. There are series that have not-so-badass cast, but the action is very good. In any case, two of which I would recommend is: 1. Nanoha A's- Really good action scenes. Problem is that this is the sequal, and the original (simply titled Nanoha) is not as heavy on action. The second series is better than the first in my opinion, but the first isnt bad either. 2. Mai-Otome- There is some very good action scenes, but it's fairly generic. On the bright side, it is well done, so you may like it or you may not. I personally had no problem with it. Note that this is a sequal (in my opinion at least. If you want to argue that it's only related thats fine too) of Mai-HiME, which contains less action, and is heavier on the drama side. As for comedy, I dont think you cant go wrong with Azumanga Daioh. If you want, give School rumble a shot. Season 1 is complete, but season two is still in progress. If you dont mind shoujo, try out Ouran host as well. The cast for this show is surprisingly strong. Love story, Saikano and Air (to a lesser extent on the love side. More on drama) are two good ones to try. They are two very sad ones (sadder than Elfen Lied in my opinion, for comparison) in my opinion. The love series that I am watching right now, and is rising exponentially for me at the moment, is Honey and Clover. I just finished season 1, and am working on season 2. The setting is so simple, but the story is amazing, because the viewers can associate themselves with most of the events in the anime (it's other main category is Slice of life). You should be able to associate with at least a few events. This story also features really strong cast, so you actually care about the character's relationships. In many cases, you would only root for a pair of characters in a love triangle because two of the characters are usually more focused upon. In this one, there is one set thats got me all tangled up, because both characters have their own circumstances, and grow on you very quickly. That's only one part of the show though. There is a lot more going on than just that one set of relationships. Edit: For ass kicking series, maybe Fate/Stay night would apply? It's may be a far-stretch. Someone help me on this one >< And just a bonus, most of the series mentioned above has quite a few amazing tracks, either songs or just theme music, and should not be missed regardless in my opinion. |

There probably isn't any anime that are similar to Monster, well other then Master Keaton, which is episodic by nature but uses similar story telling techinques. That said a lot of people who say Mushishi could be similar because of the depth in these series, however Monster has one story that takes places over all 74 episodes. Now that might seems boring, but it's the finest piece of anime (or any show) I have ever seen. I honestly believe that this is the greatest anime bar none. I am eagerly waiting for 20th Century boy the manga (same author as Monster) because I heard the story has the same feel lots of depth and interesting characters. Till next time, Delta Kiral |

By asskicking I meant things like, Hellsing and Samaruai Champloo or any of the shonuns I'm watching
Hellsing by far would be my best comparisen, being it's not only got great action but two very, very intresting and strong main characters. |

Texhnolyze,
the same guy who made Haibane Renmei and Lain. the atmosphere is a lot darker, but there's a lot of deep concepts about the state of humanity in there. you have to watch it more than once to get a lot of stuff. it's also pretty damn violent. Paranoia Agent honestly one of my favorite series. a great take on pop culture, and people trying to run away from their problems. it's really hard to explain. i'm positive you'll love this one though Noein not only does it have great art, but there's a lot of stuff about the concept of time, alternate dimensions/outcomes, etc. despite that it's pretty easy to follow. it also has some really well done fight scenes. EDIT as for comedy, i'd recommend Abenobashi Magical Shopping District this series parodies pretty much everything in existence, and it's got that great Gainax style(FLCL)to it. btw, why do you have NHK ni Youkoso! under seen all? Pure ass-kicking? Black Lagoon
I'm in love with Revy (Levi?-translated as both, but I think Rebi is probably the correct form--short for Rebecca). She defines amoral violence with a gleeful smile. She's brazen, bitchy, cocky, short-tempered, sociopathic and a "hottie." She scores a 100% on my "bad-ass, hot anime chick" scorecard. I saw Elfen Lied on your list. Only Lucy/Nyu ranks above Revy. My wife goes ballistic when I talk about Lucy/Nyu as if she was real |

Praise Ye! Texhnolyze won me with the opening hook: Juno Reactor's "Guardian Angel." This series defines distopic anime, IMO, and solidifies humanity's decline with lovely ultra-violence. As for Paranoia Agent, I have the T-Shirt! It falls in my "Japanese WTF-wierdness" catagory but does a good job addressing personal responsiblity. I wouldn't consider it "ass-kicking" anime, though. |

It seems like you are after badass characters, in which case Nanoha (which is categorized as mahou shoujo, although it may not look it when you start watching) and Mai-Otome (which features more passive female fighter leads for majority of the show) will probably not satisfy your taste. |

thanks for your input, and please see the lil sign I put under the seen all, if I'm up to date on a series that hasn't ended yet, I put it under seen all cause I'm too lazy to move it later. |
