I was on IMDB (Internet Movie Database) and I was looking at the top 250 movies ever made. I was suprised to find 2 anime titles on the list. I found Princess Mononoke (Number 109) and Grave of the Fireflies (Number 227).

Here's a link to the list.

I am very happy about this. It's really awesome to see anime recognized alongside tons of other amazing movies. What are your thoughts and comments on anime being on this list?

Edit: Spirited Away is Number 48. Must've missed it.

Only thing that comes as a surprise to me is that Spirited Away isn't on the list.

I'm surprised Toy Story 2 (137) got a higher rating than the original movie (179).

Although it is close enough, as that movie is the basis for Samurai 7.

Not to mention Seven Samurai is a damn good movie.

"Princess Mononoke" got a higher rating then "Gladiator"....Gladiator is one of my favorite movies but I guess Princess Mononoke was a little better.

Wow, isn't that like 50 years old!? I'm not saying old movies are bad, but I find it surprising that people can still love it today. I also love the anime version; I gotta check this out!

I think I'll try and figure out how to vote. Maybe that will help get our faves higher up on the list!

What the heck does that mean? I've only seen the movie of 7 Samurai but spoiler[they all fail] is proof the concept is based off of the Greek tale of the 7 Against Thebes, which is connected to Oedipus.

Akira Kurosawa is simply considered one of the legendary best in terms of directing and screen writing not only in Japan but also around the world. His influence spanned across filmmakers from George Lucas to Sergio Leone and so on.

Wait, I'm failing to see the point here? Are you trying to say that it is amazing how the story was translated from its original Greek roots and adapted to fit the Eastern culture? Or are you trying to say that it isn't original, so what is so great?

In case you haven't realized this yet: Nothing is original. It's all about the quality of the adaptation.
